Morning!

There seems a chance that the day record for 31 October could be broken today and a new record set.

It would be interesting if reports from official stations, maps, and statistics could be posted in here.

21c is being widely forecast for the London area and up to 20C widely in inland parts of the south and east.

WI

Dover, 5m asl. Half a mile from the south coast.

Its hazy here and the temp is already approaching 17c. Cars are covered in dew. So so weird. I think a 20c is not out of the question today, even up here.

Its already up to 16.5c here. A fascinating day ahead for the whole of the UK and I can't wait to see what the new records will be by this evening.

So warm here I wouldnt be suprised if there is a 22/23 somewhere in the SE as the sun beats down, astonishing weather.

The thing that will really cause the temps to soar are foehn winds, its certainly moist enough. We need to look at the lee side of mountains, inverness and aviemore are perhaps spots which could be favoured if the soutertherly wind field extended that far north. Otherwise north wales, parts of cumbria or the N coast of cornwall.

2023/2024 Snow days (approx 850hpa temp):

18/12 (-1), 06/03 (-6), 08/03 (-8), 09/03 (-6), 10/03 (-8), 11/03 (-5), 14/03 (-6)

Total: 7 days with snow/sleet falling.

2021/2022 Snow days (approx 850hpa temp):

Areas around Nairn and the Moray Coast will do well today, Lagganlia (an old met site) where i have a Davis VP set up is on the lee side of the Cairngorms and can do very well. Aviemore is more exposed tbh

Here is a link to the data

This spot near Kyle Of Lochalsh (another VP) is on the lee side of hills too

However the new record will be set further south i guess, not here in The Highlands

I think you are right, you can see particularly well on the 850hpa theta map where the warmest, moistest air is. Obviously you can see a cold front (and a rather strong one on here) however just ahead of it the air is very moist; the reigion perhaps 50km ahead of the cold front is the warmest so we should perhaps expect the warmest location to coincide with this during the warmest part of the day on the lee of a mountain.

A few stations on the METO observations (wow) page are starting to show 21c around Canvey Island and Dartford, and stations on the eastern side of the Bristol Channel now showing 20c.

That is a problem as you say so the thing I look for is when multiple stations near each other are all reporting the same temperature. If I see a cluster then I always think its more likely to be right.

Does anyone know where the page of official sites went to? When I go to the meto site now i can never find them.

18.8c here now this is from a hotel using a Davis Vue a few streets from me. The link is the Torquay one in my sig. Just took a walk to the end of the road and its sunny here but still a little hazy looking west, temperatures climbing nicely though.

It looks and feels, synoptically and in the way temperatures are leaping early, like a Halloween version of 10 August 2003. 19C here in SE London already
