When I'm expecting snow, I tend to keep nipping out onto the back patio to activate the security light, which is great for showing up snowflakes but as well as looking like a loon waving my arms about at the motion sensor, it's not so great if it's raining.

Thanks for the LED tip Ian.  I'm currently replacing my old bulbs with LED, though with varying success rates.

I have a switch in the kitchen now, just beside the window, so I can light up any time.

There was no way I was going to tell the electrician who set it up that it's main purpose was for snow watching.

Really.That is the truth.

The slagging I get off the wife and the kids is unbelievable.

I know it seems crazy.

But there is nothing better than seeing the first flakes of an imminent snow shower or snowfall event.

Another issue with modern LED lamposts is that when taking photos at night with phone cameras or cheap cameras, you can't get decent shots, whereas the older lighting shows up.
