When I'm expecting snow, I tend to keep nipping out onto the back patio to activate the security light, which is great for showing up snowflakes but as well as looking like a loon waving my arms about at the motion sensor, it's not so great if it's raining.
Thanks for the LED tip Ian. I'm currently replacing my old bulbs with LED, though with varying success rates.

There was no way I was going to tell the electrician who set it up that it's main purpose was for snow watching.
