After some severe downpours to start today we now have a little lightning and thunder to end it :)

Can see distant lightning flickering away towards Dungeness way, but I think it'll run out of electricity by the time it reaches East Kent later on this evening.

Englefield Green, Surrey:

We've just clocked 18 mm of rain since it started early this afternoon. Just had a fairly heavy pulse and it looks likely to continue for a little while if the radar is telling the truth. There's a lot of surface water around and I'm quite surprised the Met Office haven't released a warning.

Showery afternoon, and thundery showers this evening. Short but frequent torrential downpours with the odd rumble from time to time.

Clear blue skies to my north west, forked lightning still stabbing the Channel to my south east.

I'm becoming the Kent version of Charmhills now.

PS: Just checked my rain gauge to see why it wasn't collecting the rain, and it had a dirty great big sycamore leaf blocking the mouth.

Thunderstorms yesterday and overnight; 2200, 2330 and 0230 all very noisy and overhead. the last two violent enough to knock out power to the city centre which is unusual, fortunately only 5 minutes or so

We spent the entire night out and about in the rain and storms last night.

Initially called to a house fire in Maidstone at about 9:30pm, we encountered thunderstorms and heavy rain en-route around the Faversham area (circa 10pm). Then all night rain in Maidstone.

We left Maidstone around 2:30am, and drove to Ashford - not a lot of rain/flashes during this leg.

Then at 3:45am we left Ashford for home (Ramsgate). This last leg via Folkestone/Dover was punctuated by a lot of floodwater, and frequent illuminations of the sky , particularly between Dover and Ramsgate.

Knackered from the lack of sleep, but at least I had something to watch on the journey

Waterspout off Broadstairs yesterday morning ( I missed the damn thing!  )

I've passed the details on to the beautiful Kaddy and her bump, so we might see it on the next forecast she does. Possibly a little late in the day though I think.

Some really hefty showers crossing North Kent off the North Sea  in the last 2 hours or so. The sky has taken on quite an evil look in the last few mins. If this was winter, it'd be somthing akin to Jan 1987!
