Not really that important, but noticed running out of room with so many stickies, unless you make the page longer!

They are fine  at the top of the page. Easy to find....

I also think they should stay on the same page but only have 4 max so that other hot topics stay om page 1 for longer

Perhaps if someone knows how to do it, there could be a vote to see whether there are any that could be unstickied back into the 'pack'

The sticky threads issue has been raised behind closed doors and we're considering creating a sub-forum, at least for the annual and seasonal threads.

No firm decisions yet, but we'll keep you posted

A separate page for stickies may mean those threads will get missed and that's the purpose of them being stickied, so I don't think it's a good idea.  I do think there are too many stickied posts though, which can make it difficult to see which threads are most popular. 

There are some threads that would stay at the top through popularity such as the winter memories thread and the monthly CET competition, so I don't think they need to be sticked.  If they become less popular, they should be allowed to make their own way down the rankings.

Maybe the CET competition can be un-stickied once the predictions are in.

There are IMO too many at the moment, it's too easy for even topical threads to get lost by being pushed onto page 2. My preferred solution would be a sub-forum as most people would know where to go for long-running threads, but a restriction to 4 stickies would be OK.

I think the point is, popular threads don't need to be stickied as they stay at the top by sheer popularity and posting volume.  Once posting to them declines they make their way down the pages naturally. 

In my opinion, the only posts that should be stickied are the ones that are for information purposes and don't get posted to regularly but still need a prominent position.

That's my take on it, too.

I don't see any justification for ANY of the 5 current sticky threads on the Weather forum being sticky. Why are those threads more demanding of attention than the others? If no-one has posted in them, no-one is interested in them and so then they should be able to fall down to Page 2.

For example, I don't see why Scottish Mountains discussion is more relevant than Model Output Discussion. The monthly CET watch thread is unlikely to drop down as Artzeman is in the habit of updating it daily. The annual CET prediction competition thread probably should drop out of sight except around the end/beginning of the month when GW updates it. I fear that putting it in a subforum would mean that when it IS updated, people won't notice it.

So long as Brian has over a month of grace before any stale threads get culled, I don't see a problem.

Stickies should be used for important announcements (I think the "Twitter TWO" announcement on the Forum Arms, posted in 2012, has probably run its course now?) and for things like when the Monthly CET competition needs PM entries (therefore it won't receive any activity). At the very least I think Admin should seek to avoid any more than three or four stickies per forum.

Another thing that could help, would be if the number of threads shown on Page 1 of each forum could be increased slightly.

Darren, those are my exact feelings and I couldn't have put it any better. 

Most of the stickies currently on the weather forum are not as popular or as relevant as some of the other threads that are forced lower down by the stickies.  The reason for stickying posts and the length of time they're stickied needs to be considered more carefully.  The sticky facility is for threads that are important and might not get posted to but need to be in full view. 

Threads should be allowed to find their natural level on the page.

I've always felt that TWO could do with a General Weather Discussion/Ramp and Moan thread, just one thread stickied to deal with all that type of stuff, would cut down the need for other threads and maybe cuts out the needless chit chat/off topic stuff in MO thread...which I admit I have been guilty of.

When you look there is no thread for just general weather talk really apart from the Winter Discussion thread, yes there is the daily thread but it's not in the Weather section of the forum, and on certain days it may keep the place more active during quieter periods.

A couple of threads have been un-stickied. There's no need for a sub-forum for these threads on reflection.
