Okay, so the top of Mauna Loa (as I suggested) is quite a long way up! I stand corrected. That gives a somewhat misleading view, though...

Many other areas have a dusting; but for example the Pittsburgh area, where my brother got married, is snowless whilst being sub zero all week. The best cam in that area is, bizarrely, of Andy Warhol's gravestone - as you can see, wot snow?

I'm biased folks but come live in Southern Ontario, amazing climate of it's own a micro climate in the space of miles complete with its own lake effect machine dependant on wind direction!

Amazing just stunning stuff coming in from Upstate NY around Buffalo. If your in Niagara Falls you'd be pretty annoyed missing but seeing the fun from very close range (maybe i'm talking from a wx geek persepective?).

Here in Dundas another covering of snow, 6cm yesterday meaning we have about 10cm on the ground which for mid-November is very respectable indeed. The warm up is on after tomorrow though and the thaw with temps over the weekend back into 3-6c range. Incidentally, i dread to think of the implications of a thaw in Buffalo are over the weekend...that will be the next big news story!

Winter weather sure stirs a talking point or two?

The recent snowstorm has also produced some thunder and lightning, due to lake effect;

From London, Washington DC, LA, San Diego, LA and back to London! - Not A DROP or spit of rain in almost 2 weeks! Now arrived London only to be greeted with the usual 8c with drizzle.

I think I left DC the day it got colder so was lucky following the summer warmth.

Flight from LAX was good at 9hr 55mins. Thanks to tail wind too. At Woking station...now!

Spoke to someone from Seattle on the flight and this weather here in the UK is the same as Seattle apparently!

Global Warming

More serious problems to come in the Buffalo area in the next few days. Temperatures are expected to soar into the 50's accompanied by some heavy rain, especially on Monday. This, combined with snow melt, is likely to result in severe flooding for a time.

On Tuesday the temperature returns to the freezer although it should be fairly dry. Then warm weather returns for the start of December.

Luckily the area afffected is relatively small. so hopefully some sort of plan will be in place to perhaps pump alot of the run off away and into the lakes. Fingers crossed it doesnt cause more issues.

I would be more than happy with that sort of snowfall I would deal with the melt when it happens

I would love to experience something like that just once in my life. Possible flooding Monday as mild air and heavy rain moves in? Although it certainly won't melt much of that ridiculous snow.

Doesn't last long though before brutal cold looks likely to return next week with perhaps more lake effect snow.

Some very contrasting conditions on the west coast of Canada at the moment.

On Thursday local date records were smashed with Vancouver recording 14C beating the previous record of 12.8C and Victoria recording 17C beating the 1946 record of 13.3C.

Today part of Stanley Park has been closed due to high waves sending logs crashing onto the sea wall.

By tonight snow is expected with an Arctic outflow giving a wind chill as low as -20C in places.

Snow from southern Alberta and into the Prairies too as very cold arctic air floods in. A high of around -20c for the likes of Calgary and Saskatoon today, way below average for late November.

Looking ahead things gradually moderate for much of the northern US and southern Canada as we head into December. By next weekend the models have the Arctic air bottled up to the north with some pretty benign weather on offer for many after what has been a wild and wintry November.

Astonishing cold front across the plains at the weekend.

Near Record Drop in Temperature in Plains November 29-30

A cold front passed through Montana and Wyoming on Saturday November 29th and then pushed south and east over the Great Plains dropping temperatures as much as 70° in a matter of hours.

Nebraska saw the most pronounced temperature drops with York falling from an all-time late-season record high of 81°F at 1:35 p.m. on November 29th to 10° by 7:30 a.m. November 30th

http://www.wunderground.com/blog/weatherhistorian/comment.html?entrynum=317#commenttop

That's a drop from 27°C to -12°C in less than 18 hours.
