Intermittent rain this morning although it's quite heavy when it does come down with large drops, seems fairly dynamic unlike your average frontal rain. 4mm so far. Looks like turning more persistent and heavy later however.

The local winterbourne, the Lavant, has risen abruptly in the last week. Two weeks ago, bone dry; a week ago, a few pools in dips in the bed of the stream e.g. below a weir; yesterday, running strongly, 15cm deep in a 2m-wide bed.

Risk of flooding in some parts of the south-east tomorrow. The Met Office has just extended its yellow warning westwards to cover most of Hampshire.

12mm today takes the total to 135mm for the month so far, 240.6% of the LTA for 23 days of November.

That's an average of 5.9mm per day, which is a similar rate to what I would expect if there was an active frontal system moving through every two days. I'm saying this to put December 2013 into perspective, which saw 182 mm in 19 days giving an average of 9.6 mm per day!

Yesterday's persistent rain amounted to quite a bit in the end, leaving me with 149.9 mm to the end of 25th November.

That's 235% of the LTA for 25 days of November.

There doesn't look like being much more rain to add to the total before the month's end, so it appears I'm looking at roughly double the LTA for November as a whole. That fits in nicely with the theme of 2014, alongside the much above average temperatures.

With 1058.2 mm so far this year, the old annual record (2003-2013) of 1027.1 mm set in 2008 is being left ever deeper in the shadows.
