REPORT 

November was a very non-descript month weatherwise with generally average amounts of rainfall and sunshine with no really intense Autumn storms to generate interest. Temperatures were once more above average at 0.3C above my long term mean for the area and with some really very mild days only dragging the average down a little due to some chilly and occasionally misty nights with fog. There was some air frost too later in the month though due to my valley location this may appear exaggerated somewhat to that achieved on higher ground. Barometric pressure was quite low overall through the month though this was not borne out by the average rainfall only generated. There was one overnight thunderstorm on the 14th which generated some interest due to the time of day of occurrence but this was probably the highlight of a very ordinary late Autmn mild month overall.

Execrable month that, as far as I’m concerned, is the worst November in recorded history. Wind almost constantly from the SE yet again delivering extremely low diurnal ranges and a lack of extremes. No high temperatures at all during the month with only November 2010 having a lower maximum since the start of the century. 11 minimum temperatures were above the long term average max of 8.3C.

Exceptionally dull, wet and miserable with no day managing 6 hours sun for the first time since 1995. The dullest of any month since December 2002 and the dullest November since 1997, rounding off the dullest Autumn since 1968.

The majority of the sunshine was recorded in the first third of the month with only 12.9 hours between the 11th and 30th. This vile period recorded a mean max of 9.7C and a mean min of 7.2C with nothing lower than 2.6C or higher than 11.5C.

The number of wet days was the highest for any month in my records since 2005 with October 2006 the only other month to record more than 20 wet days.

Most notable features:

An abundance of above average values, far outweighing below average values.

Eight record highs in my own series compared to three record lows.

Days of 17th-20th October all set or matched previous record maximums.

Maximum on 31st October was 3.6*C above the previous date record and the highest I have ever recorded for any date later than 12th October.

November 22nd saw the highest maximum that I've recorded for any date later than 13th November and was 1.9*C above the previous record.

Very warm overall although I did manage a few slight frosts. Rainfall only slightly above average.

Pretty glum month, not much sunshine or brightness to speak of.
