How do you know it's accurate without comparing with a large number of actual ground observations?

Given that it often indicates that it's raining in my location for long periods when there is nothing reaching the ground I must say I'm sceptical!

Sleety rain here, very marginal temp & dew point but they are dropping slowly. Very odd snow distribution tonight with snow at the coast judging by some posters

Heavy rain and wind starting to pick up! Start watching for the precipitation moving on a more southerly track and wrapping round

Really heavy snow now, if rather wet. Despite the previous period of rain, sticking on cars & grass.

The front looks like it's beginning to pivot, before it sinks away SE'wards, so reckon I've got 15-30 mins of snow left, before I'd expect it to turn back to sleet/rain as it turns lighter. Hope it stays intact until the skies clear tonight and it all freezes.
