Still heavy snow here in Sheffield. Many reports of impassable roads now.
I'm surprised it's still only a yellow warning. Would have thought it qualifies as an amber at least, even the A52, a major dual carriageway in Derbyshire is blocked by a lorry stuck across both carriageways.

0.3C and snowing moderately here for past 2 hours after starting as light sleet earlier. Good inch of cover across all surfaces and radar suggests precipitation band is pivoting around this part of West Yorkshire so more to come.

Lovely time lapse, I really enjoyed that. You could see the snow level appear in waves, gradually lowering before it reached the ground and covered it.

Aaarrgghh! Meltage!!!



Temp has fallen steadily (now down to 0.6c), snow still falling (albeit very lightly now) but we have the 'drip, drip' nightmare noise, and on roads, pavements where footsteps/car tracks were, it's now clear.


I know it's something to do with the dew point (although XCWeather still shows Liverpool DP at 0c), but could someone explain how it works?

Just driven 3 miles home (was a full covering where I left from) and unfortunately there is only lying snow on favoured surfaces. Roads/paths are just soaking wet.


Snow is much much lighter here due to the snow shadow created by the Pennines. The wind is much stronger however. I'm hoping the showing coming in tomorrow will deliver enough to make it look seasonable.

Might be worth climbing up the Dover TV transmitter and stand on tippy toes and see if I could spot a wet sploge. But for now, I'm putting up with my favourite weather, gale force southerly wind and heavy rain.

It's been quite funny to be honest seeing areas that don't normally get the snow get it yet we are usually favoured  and yes that SE wind during the earlier part of the evening made the snow much lighter/created the snow shadow over eastern areas of Greater Manchester/parts of the High Peak. I noticed when the wind veered to the east the snow came down noticeably more but by that stage the heaviest band moved away from the region.

I should say I have to hand it to the EURO4 model, got it pretty much spot on with the snowfall accumulation. It did well in Winter 2012-13 too.
