Since there has finally been some snow, that has been the talking point however the temperatures deserve a story in themselves. I note that Aberdeen had an ice day yesterday and will almost certainty have another ice day today! Plus we need to watch for some cold pooling with all this snowcover. Interesting times ahead.

We seem to be coldest spot in the area right now. currently -2.5C. But I think cloud will build soon from the showers over in Yorkshire. So I expect an increase soon.

-5.8C was the low here first thing, we've not got above freezing this afternoon so maybe an ice day, north facing part of the roof still very white with frost.

My station is currently recording a temp of -4.7c

The snow has only thawed very slightly today where the sun has shone, roads are covered by an inch of packed ice and the steady dripping stopped as soon as the sun set, so it's no surprise it's so cold.

Weirdly, today's bbc article says braemar reached -8.9 earlier this month

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-30610567

*Oh, they've changed the article without saying they were wrong in the first place. Even the Daily Express don't do that (I think)

But no sign of that temperature on ukww's list of daily extremes

My max today was 0.9c - the coldest max of 2014.

The temp was -0.6c at 12.15pm when we left the house for the day; I'd expected an ice day, but the afternoon obviously warmed a little.

I was driving down a sheltered snow covered valley road approaching Tideswell at 2pm and the temperature was showing -3 on the car. The 'mildest' temps were up at Mam Tor (over 400 masl at road level) where the temp was 2c with a breeze and slight thaw on Southern slopes.

It was fascinating watching the temp on the car go up and down then up every couple of hundred metres, generally between -1 and 2c. The snow cover and sunshine both battling it out almost.

I imagine the high up snow covered Derbyshire valleys will dip towards -10 later.
