An interesting week ahead as after the intense cold, a change to variable conditions is likely this week. Mild weather is likely from Tuesday night and through until Thursday morning. Mostly dry but temperatures rising above freezing (the first for a while) with 3-4c likely 😞. Luckily, a scandi trough looks like delivering some substantial snow from Thursday night and right through Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

One to watch.... as if this verifies, we could be looking at over a metre of snow falling in a couple of days.

After the intense Christmas cold, attentions now switch to heavy snowfalls. This winter, thus far, has not delivered the 'big one' - the type of snowfalls which push in on a potent WNW'ly flow and to which can often bring anything from 100-150cm of snowfall inside 24-36 hrs. Instead, the snow depth has quietly been creeping up owing to a succession of light snowfalls in relatively stable winter conditions.

I bet you're watching the low on Thursday with interest. It deepens rapidly and is still deepening when it passes right over central Norway on it's way into the Baltic.
There is a swathe of very strong winds on it's S and SW flank. Conditions could be horrendous for a while up in the mountains.
