Todays low on my station was -2.3c at 02:41.
At 07:00 this morning the van thermometer said -5C. I haven't checked my station overnight low, but I don't think it was far off.
Lowest UK temperature of 2014 recorded this morning. Just shows what a mild year it has been.

Cromdale close by is a Met Office observation site and data is submitted to the MO at the end of each month, he recorded -9.3c 2 nights ago so this is the lowest UK temperature so far.

One of my AWS in Glen Affric has not risen above -4.8c yet today
Of note it was this coming night back in 1995 that Altnaharra recorded -27.2c

1.4c and clear. Ground temperature below freezing so snow cover safe for now. Dont know why the temperature is holding up so much considering there is snow on ground. Lowest we have managed in this spell is -1.0c.

It doesn't matter about snow - Higher ground is generally milder at night/morning than lower ground when there is clear skies in both locations. I remember in 2010 having a ride over the Pennines and at 500m over Snake Pass it was -7C but at home here it was -15C and it did feel a good deal colder here when I got out the car, here and there had snow cover. Cold air falls into valleys. I would imagine somewhere in the Aire valley not far from you would have been at least -5C by now in this spell.

Also a lot of people don't know that Altnaharra in Scotland is quite low down, it's something like 80m asl but records the coldest temps in the UK. Most likely because it is in a frost hollow valley near a river.
