UK Outlook for Wednesday 21 Jan 2015 to Friday 30 Jan 2015:

Outbreaks of rain, sleet or snow, probably across western and some central parts on Wednesday are likely to become increasingly confined to the southwest later. Elsewhere, some sunny spells and scattered wintry showers, especially across eastern parts. Through into the weekend, there is likely to be further showers of rain, sleet or snow for northern and eastern coastal parts, but inland areas should be mostly dry. Conditions will remain cold or very cold across the UK, with widespread overnight frosts and an increasing chance of freezing fog patches developing by night during the weekend. Thereafter, there are indications that more unsettled weather could return across the UK from the west, with temperatures gradually rising nearer to normal.

Met Office still going for the continuation of colder or seasonable weather despite the flip of models towards zonal milder weather from +120z.

Indeed - Just saw the BBC daily weather for the week ahead:

I don't know if any of you caught it but 8c for the SW this Wednesday and 9c by Thursday??

The forecaster Nick Miller mentioned potential for snow but looking at the BBC graphics he played - it never really came up even for his forecast for tonight into tomorrow - south of Birmingham only showed rain?? I was wondering if this was a vague forecast or the fact the snow graphics were not working? - I couldn't see much of the UK under white blobs throughout next week that's all either!? - If this cold spell ends with not a flake of snow in some parts of the south this would be one horrible disaster - bear in mind many parts of the south haven't seen snow for almost 2 years.

Latest BBC forecast by Alex Deakin shows virtually the whole of the SW under rain (blue blob on map) 12am (now) and lasting until early hours of this morning yet it's bone dry outside here in Exeter and has been all evening!

Met Office update - no sign of mild weather just "less cold" and any milder interludes not lasting so long.

Another cold day Thursday with sunny spells and wintry showers. However, cloud may increase in the west bringing rain here later, with some sleet and snow possible in the north. This rain will make uncertain eastward progress into Friday with some drier weather perhaps following to western parts. Through into the weekend there is likely to be further wintry showers in places, but most inland areas will remain mostly dry and bright, but frosty overnight. However, it may well become less cold from the west later in the weekend with temperatures returning to nearer normal for many. Thereafter, an unsettled regime will likely become established with spells of wet and windy conditions interspersed by colder, showery interludes with some snow possible. Temperatures are likely to oscillate markedly day to day.
