What always gets me about these kinda articles in the DM, is that they stress how bad things could be - then follow it up with photos of completely unrelated weather, and then a forecast map that actually doesnt look that bad.

Usually in the winter they speak of monsters snow storms, then show "the next 3 days" in forecast maps, and show temperatures barely below 5*c with the only wintry shower symbol hovering over shetland.

Then the usual "global warming" and "WERE ALL GONA DIE" in the comments... rinse and repeat.

These weather stories make me scream sometimes. For one I get barrelled by friends and people I know about when is the storm going to hit and the like. They then look at me 'bonkers' when I say 'What Storm'. I wish people would read sensible forums like this one to get a fairer balanced view of the here and now and future days. For one yes there is a large and deep depression across the mid Atlantic for the coming days but other than sunshine and showers and the occasional heavier and more prolonged spell of rain there is nothing unusual likely to come given that it is mid October. In fact on the contrary it could really feel very pleasant in the SE for a time at the weekend.

All I can say it must of been a slow news day yesterday and they had space to fill. The most pleasant thing about that article is the choice of weather photographs used all of which are unrelated to the storm in question. We all know people are gullible for weather stories and believe what they read. It's the Met Office I feel sorry for because when this hasn't happened they will get the blame for saying that they forecast it.

I could rant about this sort of thing for hours as I am a hater of the press anyway but I'll leave it at that. 

Just repeat the mantra "Believe half of what you see, and none of what you hear"

There is perverse agenda I think with the mail and express  when it comes to weather stories. Firstly, they know when the story is incorrect but it doesn't matter; they publish people read... And when it turns out to be wrong readers will blame the BBC (who are seen by most of the kind of people who believe such stories as "the weather"). So mail wins and and also gets to further it's anti BBC agenda in its readers minds. Knowingly printing incorrect info to bolster an agenda is of course the bread and butter of the press imo 

If current MetO thinking is correct, then your accusation of publishing incorrect stories is going to be true for at least 50% of the Mail's readers. The Chichester forecast suggests that Tuesday's storm will be well to the north - a little light rain overnight and a breezy sunny day to follow on the south coast. Looks rather nice, in fact.

But ex-hurricanes do have a habit of springing surprises ...

Crikey, just found out my time lapse of the remains of Gonzalo has featured on some news outlets.

ITV brekkie forecast this morning opened with a milder and wetter  than avg next 3 months. .... but possibility of some snow.

I agree about the rapid snow build up over Siberia - But I will say that a mild autumn doesn't lead to a cold winter!! Last year proved this - I remember they predicted Arctic conditions and blizzards only for it to be the warmest winter on record - see here:

This is the update - but it's a de ja vu of the previous every day - all that's change ARE the date! Lazy! lol!!

UK Outlook for Sunday 16 Nov 2014 to Sunday 30 Nov 2014:

During this period, the generally west or southwesterly flow is likely to bring spells of wet and windy weather, especially to northern and western parts of the UK. However, southern and eastern areas may see some drier and settled conditions increasing the likelihood of some sunshine, but also the risk of frost, mist and fog overnight, the latter of which could be slow to clear. Spells of unsettled weather are still likely across the south and east though. Daytime temperatures may well be near normal, although it will feel colder during any wet and windy spells.

That MetO update is a good reflection of what a lot of the longer range models are showing, with a trough to the west and ridge to the east type patter, however, the shorter range GFS, ECM, GEM, etc... Continue to look more and more interesting every day...

A mention of Easterlies from N Miller, he say's a slim chance but the fact that it has been mentioned is a good sign IMO
