BBC N 24 nightly weather for the week ahead is on in a few minutes - will be an interesting one - not to mention a very uncertain outlook, even uncertainty for this Sunday.

Bit of a vague forecast to be frank but as far as I can see there won't be any snow for the SW. I am still hopefully we would see some wet snow or even something sleety even if it's just for a day or in a shower.

Perhaps she doesn't base her forecast solely on the 18z operational run of the GFS model?

And just to confuse things more take a look at the Weather online's week ahead forecast by Gary Nicholson:

http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/cgi-app/reports?LANG=en&MENU=weekahead&DAY=20150116

Will be interesting to see their update tomorrow as well. - Next few runs will be crucial to determine as to whether or not this frontal system on Monday night into Tuesday actually does win and bring in milder air and Westerly winds!? - Certainly the Met Office updates are keeping things cold and wintry and this is from Wednesday from where the breakdown may occur!? hmm...

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Wednesday 21 Jan 2015 to Friday 30 Jan 2015:

Outbreaks of rain, sleet or snow, probably across western and some central parts on Wednesday are likely to become increasingly confined to the southwest later. Elsewhere, some sunny spells and scattered wintry showers, especially across eastern parts. Through into the weekend, there is likely to be further showers of rain, sleet or snow for northern and eastern coastal parts, but inland areas should be mostly dry. Conditions will remain cold or very cold across the UK, with widespread overnight frosts and an increasing chance of freezing fog patches developing by night during the weekend. Thereafter, there are indications that more unsettled weather could return across the UK from the west, with temperatures gradually rising nearer to normal.

Met Office still going for the continuation of colder or seasonable weather despite the flip of models towards zonal milder weather from +120z.

UK Outlook for Saturday 31 Jan 2015 to Saturday 14 Feb 2015:

After a rather unsettled end to January, the current signal is for these unsettled conditions to probably continue across most parts of the UK during the first half of February, particularly for northern and western parts. Southern areas are probably most likely to experience some lengthier dry and clearer spells. Temperatures are currently signalled to be rather below normal, which will bring a risk of night-time frosts, particularly across southern parts, and also a wintry mix of rain, sleet and perhaps snow in places.

I actually think the overall Met office update is still generally cold with plenty of snow chances mentioned. All depends upon your take on it. Certainly more unsettled again though.

A bit of a step back from very cold weather by next weekend but that can still change and no mention of the word mild in the update in fact it mentions snow possible which suggests a return of cold polar maritime air again.

BBC longer range seemed a bit more convinced of mild breakdown from later next week. Will be interesting to see how it pans out... all the 5 dayers seem to have 2-3 dc added to temps now.

The forecaster Nick Miller mentioned potential for snow but looking at the BBC graphics he played - it never really came up even for his forecast for tonight into tomorrow - south of Birmingham only showed rain?? I was wondering if this was a vague forecast or the fact the snow graphics were not working? - I couldn't see much of the UK under white blobs throughout next week that's all either!? - If this cold spell ends with not a flake of snow in some parts of the south this would be one horrible disaster - bear in mind many parts of the south haven't seen snow for almost 2 years.

Latest BBC forecast by Alex Deakin shows virtually the whole of the SW under rain (blue blob on map) 12am (now) and lasting until early hours of this morning yet it's bone dry outside here in Exeter and has been all evening!

Met Office update - no sign of mild weather just "less cold" and any milder interludes not lasting so long.

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Thursday 22 Jan 2015 to Saturday 31 Jan 2015:

Another cold day Thursday with sunny spells and wintry showers. However, cloud may increase in the west bringing rain here later, with some sleet and snow possible in the north. This rain will make uncertain eastward progress into Friday with some drier weather perhaps following to western parts. Through into the weekend there is likely to be further wintry showers in places, but most inland areas will remain mostly dry and bright, but frosty overnight. However, it may well become less cold from the west later in the weekend with temperatures returning to nearer normal for many. Thereafter, an unsettled regime will likely become established with spells of wet and windy conditions interspersed by colder, showery interludes with some snow possible. Temperatures are likely to oscillate markedly day to day.

UK Outlook for Sunday 1 Feb 2015 to Sunday 15 Feb 2015:

The unsettled conditions will probably continue across most parts of the UK during the first half of February, particularly for northern and western parts. Southern areas are probably most likely to experience some lengthier dry and clearer spells. Temperatures are currently signalled to be rather below normal, which will bring a risk of night-time frosts, particularly across southern parts, and also a wintry mix of rain, sleet and perhaps snow in places.
