Sleety showers then heavy sleet turning to rain as temp edged up to near 8C by midnight, now falling again to 6 C - wind wind wind. Still waiting for air temp to fall below this year in north Northumberland!.

Not happy - just saw the BBC forecast and shows that all the wintry showers for the SW will be fading away come midday. - Instead of increasing throughout the day and becoming wintry and to lower levels as forecasted last night. Also a band of sleet and snow which was due to come down from the North tonight looks like it will be rain now.

Anyone find this frustrating when every time you see the weather the location of the snowfall always changes!? - I guess it just shows how hard it is to forecast where the wintry snow showers will be and when they will fall!?

Disappointing day - only a few spits of drizzle from part of the CB cloud earlier around lunchtime and then an early evening shower lasting 2 minutes. Still no snow.

The worrying trend is that all models are falling into line with the UKMO stance of this being drier than some NWP initially suggested.

I guess snowmageddon will have to wait a bit longer...

Not surprisingly, nothing even close to snow here in Manchester and surrounding areas (away from hills)

As this cold spell began to firm up in the models, NW England looked on most runs to be one of the favoured regions for snow. Not for the first time, as the spell unfolds, we find the focus for snow has moved away.

Been speaking to a client in Littleborough near Rochdale, and they've got settling snow (although they are at a bit of altitude)

I wish people would put there " It's Over " b*lltulipin here rather than cluttering up the MO thread with total b*llshit

One thing NW has over here imo is a thread for the rants, moans, groans & ramps shite.

Less than 12hrs ago people were getting all wet and sticky over a tweet from Ian F, then 12hrs later some are saying no chance, all over for next week blah blah blah.... The same fools will be back tonight when things change yet again.

Some never learn a lesson.

TWO easy weather forecasts. As soon as this thread starts to get to more pages than the MO you know you don't have to look at models or forecasts.

Some just don't learn.

let's get the real cold in and see where we go from there.

I'm guilty myself of not putting much depth to my posts because of lack of knowledge therefore I don't post much in there.

Other areas in the region are significantly higher and do benefit. Bath is a good example which I get to see most winters as I commute from Warminster (at about 130 masl) to the University (close to 200). On wed we only got to the snow line as we crested the hill in to the Uni. In the Feb 2009 spell the Uni experienced depths around twice what we had at home, just 15 miles away.

They are basically the winter version of these

P.S I just wear my old fashioned golf shoes that have spikes on the bottom coz they are banned on the golf course now, my local landlord simply requests I remove them before entering the pub ...and now days they blend in with the fashion

Like these below but mine are brown lol
