What a putrid week it has been. Winter at it's absolute worst. It's been repulsively cold and windy all the time during the day then at night it gets even windier and milder. The wind has not dropped to an acceptable level in over a week and there has been not a flake of snow as the mountains have stopped it all reaching here yet strangely failed to stop 15mm of vile cold rain getting here

The lack of even frost this month has been astounding. Worse than last year and 2007. Into the second half of the month and it has gone below zero twice for a total of 3.7 hours. Ridiculously poor. There has been no visible frost since the 4th and this is supposed to be the core winter period. It is worse than diabolical

Just like the 1st half of last winter, which was then followed by a far worse 2nd half, the 1st half of winter 2014/15 has been a nasty, unpleasant write-off offering absolutely nothing of interest whatsoever.

It's ironic given the fact the Aberdeen is meant to be the most coldest city in the UK not to mention one of the most northern city and yet it hasn't got very cold there? How is it that Aberdeen is escaping all the snow and cold?

I was just watching the time-lapse of the snow showers over Aviemore:

Yet nothing going to Aberdeen!? Maybe the mountains are taking a big hit!? - all seems very snowy in Aviemore though.

This winter is has been an improvement on last winter as we have seen much more sunshine however in terms of snow it is even worse than last year Constant westerly winds meaning no snow ever makes it over the mountains. Even when we do get a brief northerly these days like is forecast on Sunday a mild sector always ruins our chances of snow At least in the winters of the 2000s a toppler would at least provide 2 or 3 days of snow.

Been checking up on the Met Office forecasts over the day. This morning we had 4 snow symbols for my area of Dorset for Sunday morning, now we have no precipitation whatsoever then. And then Tuesday = heavy rain. *sigh* I think I might have to book another holiday to Iceland this year!

OK my venting. This 'cold' spell gets off to a great start with rain showers this morning, followed by a slight frost then cloud and rain tonight - maybe not. Highs +7, lows +4. Sunday lovely - cloudy and damp highs +7 again. Maybe a frost Mon then - er, rain on Tuesday.
Fantastic 'coldest winter spell for two years' and it will be long remembered I'm sure

Totally IMY by the way and yes my chequebook is back in the drawer with my newspaper clippings of proper winters past and my copy of The Weather of Hampshire and the IOW with great photos of proper winter weather (again from the distant past).

Pee poor start to the day and not holding out much hope for this weekend at least, temp is 2.8c and after a hail shower leaving a covering of slush it's now sleeting, with far more rain than snow.

Nothing wintry or with snow showers as forecasted over east Devon for this morning - but the hard frost is melting and there are CB's around.

Looking at the latest radar - all showers are going up the Bristol channel or N. Devon into Somerset:
