3/10. Some decent frosts and a couple of snowfalls but nothing to write home about.

4/10 for me. Saw falling snow on 3 occasions, though on two of them it didnt settle or last long. On one occasion it did settle and produce a light covering (thougn it was gone when I returned from work). Definately had several frosts but dont recall any being below minus 3. On most of the days it did actually feel cold and only seemed to warm up yesterday. A few days were cold and sunny.  Didnt expect to see any snow personally from this setup so actually seeing some was a suprise. Overall a pretty unmemorable cold spell but I would take one of these any day compared to what we had last winter and during this past December and first half of January

Of all the cold spells I've lived through I would have to say it's by far and away the most recent...

Oh, forgot to do the marking thing.

I'd give it 2/10.

1 point in that it is an improvement on last winter by being a bit more gentle on us, and another point taking into account that I have got to see a number of air frosts even at this end.

But this is me describing this winter so far rather than this particular "cold spell".

Saw falling snow, freezing fog and frost.

Also saw rain, sleet and none of the snow stuck.

2/10

This is still the best chart Manchester has seen in the last 25 years:

6/10 an inch or 2 of snow.. hard frosts and ice days.

Apart from a light covering which than melted though the night and the odd frosts here and there. Then of course no ice days either.

This cold spell gets a 3/10 quite disappointing really.

Cold spell? When? This has been a bog standard run of the mill a bit below average spell. You need this as those rather milder spells to create the average (which you wouldn't normally sit at as they are the in between the two). I would personally have preferred to have saved on the heating.

can't give it a mark as it's been so normal. Like asking to rate a unusually mild spell with temps of 8-10c.

just an average spell of chilly winter weather you would expect most years , would hardly call it a cold spell, most places have seen no snow and we have had average frosts. overall an average winter but this month here very wet

A bog standard winter chilly period with a brief light covering of snow and some frosts. Plenty of rain. Hasn't met my personal "cold spell" criteria.

So 3.5/10 perhaps.

The lowest maximum here was 3.5*C which falls short of the 2.9*C managed on 30th January last year.

22 months without what I would call a proper cold spell - where going outside is a battle against low temperatures, preferably with snow involved. The best last year could manage was frost hanging on all day in the shade on the 29th. In the sun it actually felt pleasant with maximums not far short of 5*C. Similar story for this 'cold spell', which has only really felt chilly for anyone stuck out in what was at times rather heavy and persistent rain.

In fact that's what it has been here - a brief wet spell with 11.2 mm to show for it. It may not sound like much, but with the lack of evaporation and high ground water levels, the local stream came within a whisker of bursting its banks, which usually requires the sort of Atlantic onslaught seen last winter.

It has also been 23 months without any lying snow (22 without any falling), with the one and only cold spell in terms of departure from the LTA coming in August last year... typical .

Phew. Rant over. At least the sun is shining today and it feels rather pleasant...

But yeah, apart from that I agree with you. Anyone with half an ounce of weather knowledge could see this wasn't going to be a memorable cold spell for many.

Well, it was for most areas, never "bitterly cold", and for the powder puff effort it has been, it's lasted not more than 5 days....and most have not even noticed.

I've had to scrape my car twice in this "spell"...Twice....That's a bog standard winter coolish snap, nothing more!

UK Outlook for Monday 19 Jan 2015 to Wednesday 28 Jan 2015:

Dry, cold and clear for much of central Britain on Monday and Tuesday with showers affecting many coastal counties away from the south, readily falling as sleet and snow. There will be a widespread frost overnight and some localised patches of freezing fog which may be slow to clear through the day. Through the rest of next week, the general cold conditions will persist bringing an ongoing risk of snow, more especially in northern and eastern areas. Temperatures will be generally below average with overnight frosts, locally severe. Towards the end of the period there looks to be a possible return to more generally unsettled conditions with rain, strong winds and temperatures perhaps nearer to normal for the time of year.

And "generally unsettled conditions with rain, strong winds and temperatures perhaps nearer to normal for the time of year" are currently expected to set in on Sunday.   Whilst details have not been exactly as predicted a week ago, I wouldn't say it's been far off?

Almost a week of lying snow and freezing temps 7/10 for me

6/10. We had seven out of last 9 days and counting with snow cover although admittedly if you live below 150m its not been significant at all. The fall of 10cm yesterday was very respectable and pushes the rating up!. There was alot more precipation around here than originally exepected in the last week, it has been snowing most days although unless you lived 250metres plus nothing too significant until yesterday. I have spend most of the last week or two radar watching indicating there have been many snow opportunities, will be glad for a bit of a break now but will enjoy the snow tonight and tomorroe before it all goes.

As far as London is concerned ,yes it has been cool this last week,, but certainly nothing out of the ordinary and NO snow. Whilst February is yet to come I would be very surprised if us folks in SE England see any proper sustained cold weather for the next few weeks based upon current output and the knowledgable posters on TWO....of course things may well change, but my understanding is until Azores High shifts and we can get rid of the incessant NW/W zonal weather, characteristic of much of this winter so far, I see no change for the forseeable in the current uninspiriing weather patterns.

It wasn't particularly cold over the last two weeks, but there has been plenty of snow in my locality at 200m asl, significantly less at 100m asl and close to zero on the ground at near sea level. Elevation has been the key.

This year has been wonderful in comparison to last years few snowfalls that occured at night time and were gone in the morning.

* Late note should have added a 6/10 score

Compared to the last 2 winters, this has been pretty good! Sunday was a cracking day with snow gently falling and settling all morning so out with the kids sledging and snowball fights with the neighbours! Only about 4-5 cms in the end which shows how snow starved we'd become! The last of the snow cover is hanging on just about in the more sheltered spots of the garden. Overnight lows have reached -4.9 on Sunday & Monday night and then -5 last night and the temp tonight is dropping fast once again.
Was hoping for more but to finally see my little ones get use out of our sledge was pretty priceless so I'll give it a 7.
Without that 5cm of snow it would have struggled to be a 3 out of 10.

No comparison locally.

January 2013 saw several snowfalls here, one of which was a very good.

Temperatures overnight were not that low in the 2013 spell apart from one night (-7'c) but several days were very cold.

This time I've had maxes of 4.8/2.8/2.7/2.6/3.3 and, counting this morning, 3 hard frosts.

Technically, wintriness has been noticed on 3 days but in each case it has been blink and you'll miss it!

So definitely a cold spell, notable for some hard frost but a complete bust for snow

I've taken that point away (now 1/10 for me) as I've woken up to dull skies and totally frost-free conditions this morning, thus rounding off what has been a mediocre "cold spell".

Bring on the first real bit of mild and sunny weather, enough to make a start on the garden.

I can't remember the details of January 2013 to be honest and I wasn't living in East Kilbride then! But I know this morning is the 8th consecutive morning of snow cover here - now quickly melting in the rain I have to add! But Tues/Wed last week also had snow cover so January 2015 has delivered 10 days of snowcover from two periods of snowfall - 5cm & 7cm, And a nice sunny frosty week too. So I am a happy and satisfied cold weather enthusiast! This cold spell delivered for me!

As to a score. I suppose Dec 2010 was a 10 in terms of deep snow and extreme and persistent cold. January 2015 was a .....   7.
