Although I can see what looks like a good dollop of precipitation over East Kent on the radars indicating that the polar low is now passing right overhead as I type, I am getting that "oh, is that it?" feeling here at Folkestone as nothing is happening yet. No rain, sleet or snow, just high-cloud filled skies (although my rain gauge shows 0.6 mm of something had fallen during the night).
Looks like the Folkestone Rain Deflector has done it again - but there is still a couple more hour's window before the polar low tumbles onto the near Continent.
There are still bits of thin coating of frozen snow from yesterday evening's event, though as temperatures hovered around 1.3 C with 85% humidity all night, thus kept the dewpoint below freezing with calm winds.
Other than all that, I can't really call it as forecasting fail as there was a lot of uncertainty beforehand anyway. In fact, I would be more surprised if I did wake up to a winter wonderland!

Had a covering of snow here...now very slushy and horrible....and I missed the snow falling.....typical. Does not feel as cold now either

Nothing here apart from a slight frost temp - 0.2c, no snow cover.

Overnight rain washed away the thin cover of snow remaining from yesterday afternoon's shower. Typical of how cold spells often are in the UK. Can't help but feel 'Carry on cold spell' would have been a good film for them to make.

I fear that the patchy lying snow on the grass here won't survive until daybreak.

It occurs to me now that separate discussion and reports threads might have been a better way forward with this event... too many reports raising jealousy levels across the south

You southerners always have to have everything, dont you.  And then rub it in when you know us further north have, as usual, had nothing

(yes it was just rain overnight here, not surprising given how mild it is!)

Not sure what happened here. Just woke up and radar shows heavy area of precipitation passed over us not long ago. No snow evident from this, however, and our thin cover from last night appears to be in tact......so what fell from the sky? Assume it was rain/sleet, but why has it not washed the snow away......odd, back to bed😴

I can't predict the future or anything like, but i've a funny feeling that this cold spell will drift away without any significant event happening here.

Looks amazing outside with lots of snow lying. The trees look stunning. Had clear skies and fog around 4am which froze it solid. Light snow again now.

First snow cover I ave seen for two years here in Dover - as ever, in these marginal situations, not directly IMBY but visible on the hills around 1.5 miles away at the back of the town,

It was superb in Glossop this morning with a few cm of extra snow overnight completing the scene with snow on trees etc. The journey to Manchester was easier this morning as the last snowfall was in the early hours, the main roads were well cleared and traffic was light. Some snow in Manchester too last night with a reasonable cover in the Eastern suburbs.

We got hit with two distinct bands of PPN from that feature last night. The first was pants - hail, sleet and rain.

At around midnight last night, the 2nd band was over us and we quickly got a thin covering of a mix of hail & snow. Checking out the traffic cams, the Manchester area had much more (even along the M602).

It was snowing IMBY when I went to bed.

Woke up this morning to a total covering. On grass/cars, it's about 4cm deep; roads/pavements 2cm. All a bit slushy underneath, but crisp & white on top.

Driving into work this morning, the depth actually gets less as you get toward Manchester. I think a combination of the second band not hitting the city centre as squarely, and the general Manchester UHI effect. I believe to the south of Manchester again struck lucky.

Forecast today is for temps a degree or two warmer, and showers to be rain/sleet away from hills, so likely it'll all be washed away.

Still, snow on my birthday (it's my birthday today, peeps! ) is rather rare.

Heavy snow last night and the early hours of this morning in Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.

Although we have not had Armageddon (yet) we have now had 3 decent snowfalls since Xmas and quite a number of frosts so this winter has not beed too bad in this region of the country.

Hopefully more snow over the weekend/next week especially for those who have missed out.

Here in Lechlade SE Glos. yesterday afternoon there was a thin covering of hail/snow which froze hard in the evening. It was all washed away by overnight rain.

Well the weekend snow opportunities look like they are receding for East Anglia now. I wonder if the Met will remove the yellow warning (Sunday/Monday) for Norfolk this morning?? The fax charts don’t look that inspiring now and tie in with the latest meto forecast for the East of England. Yesterday’s forecast talked of frequent snow showers on Sunday. Now relying on some kind of trough or front in the Northerly flow, otherwise just doesn’t look (at this stage) that the Northerly will produce much in the way of shower activity here. (apologies for the IMBY post but I am talking about the Anglia region as a whole)

Met forecast for East of England:

Saturday:
Saturday will be cold with many parts turning dry with sunny spells, as wintry showers become more confined to Norfolk coasts. Brisk winds, especially near coasts. Maximum Temperature 4C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:
Staying cold and mainly dry with bright spells for Sunday and Monday, along with widespread frost. Chance of snow showers mainly affecting coasts, especially on Tuesday, as onshore winds develop.

Looking on the BBC motorway webcams, I'm surprised that most places in Yorkshire aren't showing more snow.

Took a few pics this morning. Looking out west towards the Peak District, up around 200m asl.  Side roads still pretty bad, as you can see.  Bit of a thaw today, hopefully not too much over the weekend, with maybe a top up...?

I was worried I'd be disappointed as the band looked to turn sleety on the radar overnight but I couldn't be more wrong. Here in the north of Staffordshire, close to the Moorlands border, there is around 10cm lying on the grass, slightly less on the pavements due to a thaw yesterday.

I've been up on the hill behind mine looking towards Leek, and the fields are full of the stuff, around 15cm has fallen. Its nearly walking boot height anyway and was tiring to walk through today with the dog.

It was chaos on the roads this morning with vehicles stuck on the various banks in the area and lots of school closed. Best fall this winter, our 3rd proper.

Is anyone closer to Buxton, they must have been hammered overnight?
