Indeed Richard. It is just awful for a Northerly in February. I have known better northerlies in October and many better northerlies in April. Basically all of the winters in the 2000s had better snow than this year. I am not old enough to remember the 1990s but I can imagine they were better than this.Long gone are the days of march 2006 it looks set to get worse into next week too.

This is what the 90s brought in Aberdeen:

1989/90 - Awful. Only real snow was in April which I remember well coming during the Easter Holidays.
1990/91 - Little snow until February which was the last time there was an easterly that actually delivered a decent snowfall.
1991/92 - Almost snowless but quite frosty in Dec and Jan. Heaviest snowfall was 4cm in mid-March but I don't remember it.
1992/93 - Heavy but shortlived snowfalls in each month. 20cm at the end of Feb
1993/94 - Started very good with snowfalls in November and a White Christmas. More snow in Jan and Feb but the latter was a dreadful month with lots of rain, sleet and wet snow.
1994/95 - Very snowy New Year with a couple more good snowfalls at the end of Jan and in Feb
1995/96 - Very cold and snowy between Christmas and New Year. January depressingly grey and one of the worst months I can remember. February had a brief good snowfall.
1996/97 - Rubbish. Can't recall any snow apart from November and May. December had a couple of snowfalls but was mostly cold and grey.
1997/98 - Several brief snowfalls due to northerly topplers. Quite heavy around the 19th Jan but didn't last long.
1998/99 - A good snowfall of 13cm in December then an excellent spell in February that delivered a foot of snow.

Just been looking through some Daily weather Reports from the 1960's and its amazing how many snowfalls occurred in an average winter.

Winters like 62, 63, 65, 68, 69, 70 had repeated spells of snow some of them on a weekly basis!

Between 1961-1980 snow lay here on average 22 days per year in Penrith

Between 1981 and 2010 it was 10 days.

Enough said.

Would love 10 days of lying snow here! Not even had 1 full day here this winter (or last of course) we are very much in a rut in this part of the UK and no way out. Not seen more than 4 inches since I moved here in 1999, bad choice for a snow fan😚😝 one day!

Prepare for a boring week ahead weather wise - I wish this Azores/Iberia HP could shift to the north and not south, "The pancake just doesn't want to toss or turn!". - As Daniel Corbett would say.

Gosh!! If this set up occurred in summer we could be seeing some very warm weather. Oh, wait until March/April and we will get a proper blocking and easterly for sure or even worse - we get the wind and rain as we head into summer which will be a disaster.

I hope this high pressure will come back for summer! Fingers crossed.

Well, saw the outlook and MET office outlook, we have the best part of one week of drier weather then back to default zonal" - I am sure there maybe a cold blast end of Feb but until then it could be my last post, weather looks very boring over the next few days, over the weekend and into next week.

Very disappointed with this cold spell/northerly. Even people in local shops say how nice it would be to see a little snow (just for a day).

Look forward to hearing your rant Richard - make me feel better.

On a final note - there is always Southern France, Greece, Spain or Italy, where snow will be guaranteed! If not Syria.

This winter has been poor thus far for real excitement of the cold variety.  IMBY marginal is hopeless.  On the close-by North Downs its oK if a cm or two of transient snow then slush floats your boat.

Next please.

Another awful winters day Cloudy most of the day and not cold, not mild, not really sunny. Just boring. Never thought I would hear myself saying this but roll on the lighter nights and summer.

I would be dancing naked in the street if we had snow like that!

What is galling is that down here looks like we could have a month of cold dry weather which, had we had a decent snowfall, would have meant it lasting for ages ......

Maybe I should move to Aberdeen?

Yet another write off winter snow wise with only a few cms on a couple of occasions on the edge of the city and basically nothing in the city itself just as well there has been some sun.

Yes at least December and January while having no worthwhile snow and little frost managed decent sunshine totals.

February on the other hand looks like having no worthwhile snow, little frost and poor sunshine levels thanks to this garbage high

Got much clearer skies from the zonality than this dismal high. The only benefit it should have brought over the zonality was lighter winds but even at 1035mb it's still windy. Just what the hell kind of set-up does it actually take for the winds to be light these days?

Well, it didn't get below freezing last night - at least yesterday was the coldest day since MARCH 2013 - max of +4c

But woke up to clear skies which was lovely but the frost had melted by 9am and temperatures are rising super duper fast!

Perhaps you could move in with Richard from Aberdeen and rent a flat together in Sheffield - the city that has done very well this winter (apparently).
