Thought I see more of the North West crew in here tonight, given the multitude of reports from daarn saarf of snow falling.

Who knows if we've shifted back into that pattern (at least we'd likely get a nice summer for once!), but it still looks like we may have a few more shots at Winter into March. Even the overnight frosts here are very light and form just before dawn under clearing skies. Yawn!

Farewell post from Warminster (about 1cm) from last nights unexpected fall. From the sound of it many others will also be departing...

Very excited to see the snow as hadn't thought about it (probably the best way to be), but now a bit miffed that not far away (Downton  south wilts) reporting a couple if inches and that's only about 25 miles away!

I dunno whether the cold spells in 2009 & 2010 spoilt us, but you're right about snow cover since then being too short lived. Even the falls in 2013 didn't last much beyond a few days. We did actually get a covering of snow (2-4cm depending on surfaces), and there is still the odd patch in shaded spots and small piles where people cleared paths. But the widespread cover was always a bit slushy underneath and mostly disappeared in the sunshine the following day.

The pity is that we only tipped below sub-zero for the first time in this spell on Sunday night (got to -2.9c last night, too), too late to preserve the snow.

And now all the snow focus shifts north, south, east & west of this region.

This Winter is seriously beginning to tick me off, now i can't complain i haven't seen falling snow in fact I've seen falling snow at least 5 or 6 times since boxing day but this year its like being teased by the weather. Not once has it amounted to anything more than an icing sugar covering like that on a delicious Victoria sandwich cake. Its peeing me off now. More significant snow has managed to avoid me to both the north and now to the south, last year i wasn't fussed as the hope wasnt there, this year its the hope thats killing me.

Much like watching Aston Villa play you hope for a goal...........and see feck all!!!!

All I've had so far today was two wet splodges of snow during what has been a generally cloudy and damp morning involving occasional light rain - but it was as per my own forecast anyway so it hadn't come as too much of a surprise to me.

It seems that all my hopes of seeing some proper snow at this end rests on Thursday afternoon, through the night and onto Friday morning in the form of Kent Clippers/Channel Streamers. Even though the parameters does look more favourable for it, but will I be setting myself up for a let down? All it'll take is a tiny shift in wind direction and the whole thing is ruined.

In any case, that would be our last chance saloon before high pressure settles over us thereafter.

It's like staying dry till it gets warm.

Chances of a significant (ie at least 1" level cover that lasts for at least 2 hours before melting) snow fall in Evesham this winter look slightly less than that of me winning BBC Sports Personality of the Year ...

Never mind proper snow. Improper snow would be welcome here. Absolutely nothing here for 2 winters bar a 30-second flurry 12 months ago.

You'd think up in rural north northumberland you'd get plenty of snow from the current set up but all we get is occasional bursts of sleet. I guess with temps around 3 C the whole time its too be expected. Even at night the persistant wind prevents nothing lower than around -1 in the screen (compared to -4 on a sheltered windowsill). Altitude is king, all around me are hills and just 100ft up there's a covering and above 500ft has been white for days.

Another all time low reached this week with the crappiest northerly in history. If I didn't have an anemometer I would swear the wind was coming from the east the past few days

It's an embarassment. 4cm lying yesterday but no tops up and it reduced to 3cm by this morning. Several hours of wet easterly type snow this morning added nothing and this was followed by a sunny afternoon which melted it further.

Now plenty of grass showing so not even a full cover. This is a disgrace for the heaviest snowfall for over 2 years:

The 36-48 hour topplers in the 90s and 2000s used to deliver more than this which is pitiful. There has not been a single day, from this current spell, with a daily mean below freezing. It reached 3.2C today and currently, 1.5 hours past sunset with clear skies and snow on the ground, it is still well above freezing at 0.8C  For a supposed cold spell in early February this is a joke.

No more than 4cm of snow and no lower than -4C makes it a stinker of a winter as far as I'm concerned and nothing good on the horizon with potentially the worst weather of winter coming up in the form of anticyclonic gloom

I give this winter a 7/10. Sadly all we ever get is a rain and snow event with this maritime Polar crap, Sadly we have had 3 days of snow showers with none lodging on the ground , Dew points never go below freezing unlike a good old fashion easterly or northeasterly sadly which has been lacking.Last night we had a cracker of a night with frost, It went down to -8 where I live in Dublin, That s my rant for this winter. (This winter was 10 times better than last year)

Well that's it for the SW - Apparently there was a snow shower over south Devon and a flurry in Exeter around 7am Monday morning but I was fast asleep and apart from some hail and soft hail showers which turned to sleet and ended with 30 seconds of wet snow last Thursday (Just flakes in the wind) as the shower cleared and temps fell. This cold spell has been a disaster for East Devon, and Somerset as well as Dorset.

We were due some snow showers Saturday night into Sunday but the streamer was to the west of Exeter and all the snow showers went to Dartmoor. - So it was better for Dartmoor and I think even parts of Cornwall saw more wintry showers than Devon. I heard Taunton did poorly too - friend of mine said NO snow in Taunton. We could have seen more persistent sleet or snow today from that weather system coming down from the north but even that fizzled out and the low on Sunday went too far west of the UK and headed straight to Spain (Must be some good skiing over the Pyrenees Mountains.

This cold spell (so far) has really been a deja-vu of the last one but I'll give it 1/10 this time instead of 0.5/10 - At least we saw some heavy hail showers and sleety rain and a flurry of wet snow for less than a minute. But honestly this was very poor and it was only last night when we actually dipped to below freezing before rising rapidly again. Also most of the showers fizzled out as they headed inland anyway. and those showers that did reach Exeter (Fri/Sat night) ONLY fell as icy rain or ice pellets in heavier bursts. That night was the most frustrating one ever experienced because temperatures rose in the showers and one night the temperature was stuck at +4.1c for several hours. ANYWAY RANT OVER, this will probably be it from me for a while - as some of you maybe aware I only post in the forum if I think there is something interesting weather wise or if there is a cold spell on the way. So anyway to rate this:

1/10 - POOR!!

The focus now will be the SE and E but accumulations are nothing to write home about.

There is cold weather due to last into the weekend but if there isn't going to be any snow with it then there is no fun and I bet you with the strength of the wind - it will prevent a frost forming too.

Not very eventful or impressive.

Let's hear you rant's? Please cure my headache and make me feel better!?

The metoffice website promised me an 80% chance of heavy snow yesterday afternoon, followed by two more hours of a 60% chance of light snow

Of course none of it turned up, even as it was forecasted at t+3 :-)

I know they say snow is hard to forecast, but there was no precipitation whatsoever, so i think it's mostly a psychological thing. When they predict snow, people will watch and wait and moan when it doesn't happen. When they predict rain, people don't watch as much, and definitely don't moan if it doesn't turn up - so my theory is snow isn't that much harder to predict than rain, it's just that everyone holds the met office to their forecasts for snow and remembers when they get it wrong. Someone would need to collect figures or something.

at about 8pm we did get an icing sugar dusting.

This winter is a gnats cock away from being up there with last year for me. A coupe of days of sleet/wet non settling snow, these are the most miserable weather types possible. A bit of snow 12 miles away in Halesworth the other day and saw a bit of pathetic snowfall in Lancashire in mid jan, although looked better at altitude.

It has been a winter where altitude has been key and as Richard says one of the most truly disappointing northerlies for our side of the country, which near the coast of east anglia usually does amongst the best.

A complete sh*tfest and as I will be out of the country for 17 days from Friday I can say with some confidence that WIO in any meaningful way.

More snow fell last night taking depth to 6cm but it was dry by morning with clear skies yet the temperature still failed to drop below freezing. Just incredulous. A pale imitation of even the most pathetic cold spells from years gone by

Clear skies soon filled in after dawn giving a day of grey skies with nothing falling so a lot of what was lying melted and turned to slush. It's now 2.2C and a frost is not looking likely either tonight or at any point in the next 7-10 days as this atrocious winter continues to get more and more tedious.
