Today got worse as the day went on. By the second half of the football I had drizzle blowing into the stand

Well cold spell is more or less come to an end - I did expect a frost last night and night before last but we didn't even make it to 1c above and any frost that does form now melts by 9am so it seems and here's to another boring uneventful week ahead. It's still early Feb and we can get snow in April like 2013 (prime example). but still - soon the sun will get much stronger.

Not a rant but an observation of how uneventful the weather has been today - overcast & dull. Temp has been 6.5c all day...well just dropped to 6.4c.

Kept seeing WIO in the model thread and took me a while to realise what it meant .....   didn't help that in some places, winter hasn't even started yet!

The only good thing about this winter has been the lack of E and SE winds. Now that one positive has been well and truly nullified.

Clear skies all week until Thursday, when I was stuck in an office during daylight hours, then the most revolting synoptics possible arrive yesterday in time to write-off the weekend completely. Absolutely sick of this nonsense being repeated time and time again

Just putrid out there. Dank, foggy, murky depressing as hell grey filth with the temperature stuck on 5C since yesterday afternoon Easily the worst spell of this winter bringing back painfully unpleasant memories of the horror show that was 2014

Well its getting late for anything wintry to reach my neck of the woods, in south Hampshire with nothing remotely cold in the next 10 days , gardens are already full of daffodils about to burst into flower with snowdrops out for weeks , and the strengthening sun will eliminate any chance of ice days, so the window of opportunity is almost closed on another winter.
Whats annoying is the one day snow did fall here a couple of weeks back it was only a couple of centimeters and had gone by 10 but it recorded as a snow day, breaking the 2 year snow drought !.. Man if its gonna snow do it properly! ( i was in a snow less Edinburgh anyway so missed it ! ).

Maybe if we want to see snow this year we all need to book a flight to day to Boston or New York!

Well, I think it is time to write the obituary on this winter. A dull, pasty, boring affair, a rotten winter, only less bad than last winter since we had some frosts and dry weather this time around. Will the winter of 2015-16 be any better? I doubt it - the Yanks will probably get all the fun weather yet again!

Well if the current model output is correct, I reckon that winter may well not be over yet, especially for northern areas. I'm not expecting a repeat of the near record cold March of 2013 but what is being indicated looks a lot like March 1995 style cold zonality to me.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if there are a few wintry outbreaks during March; I've seen it before many times, and sometimes after fairly non-eventful winters such as this one.

What a load of rot to end this dire flop of a winter. Mild muck today and the outlook is of yet another northerly being cut off, before it gets going, by useless cold zonal dross which will deliver nothing wintry to NE Scotland just endless wind, little frost, bone dry when it's cold enough for snow, rain when it's not

Hideous rubbish to write-off the last couple of weeks with proper snow potential which will mean going 5 years without a decent snowfall. Unimaginable even in the 90s

Reach 12c today in the sun - Almost felt spring like and in light wind - people in T-shirts . Well, this more of an observation than a rant but we will pay the price for it tomorrow with wind and rain.

There is still nothing interesting showing up on the GFS models - no easterly, northerly, north easterly, no blocking, no scandi. At the best we will get a NW'ly. Very unseasonal indeed for Feb.

Just another observation as well as a moan.

YET AGAIN - we have had showers on and off throughout the day - perhaps a period of wet snow for a few minutes around 9am and some showers ending in sleet around 11am when temperatures dropped to +3c. However, now we're in night time the temperature is rising and NOT falling we are back up to +5c. This sort of weather pattern has been typical of the last few cooler snaps, when temperatures rise during the night and the coldest time of the day is between 11am and noon. Just frustrating to the extreme.

I remember when we had proper northerlies when temperatures plummeted behind showers and they turned more and more to snow giving coverings. But the past couple years (since 2010) temperatures have risen as the evening/nights have progressed and showers have turned more to sleet and then finally rain before fizzling out.

Oh well, fun over for now. Was enough to tease. Back to square one tomorrow.

Absolutely revolting start this morning. Cold, exceptionally windy, grey and raining. Couldn't ask for worse conditions. Truly HATE this horrendous nasty cold wind that has barely let up for months and continues to rattle away this evening

This has been as dire an end to winter as I can recall. Two pathetic transient frosts is all we've had since the 12th and no snow except for the wet stuff mixed in with rain on Sunday which was one of the most disgusting days of the winter. The previous weekend was repulsive as well so there has been very little opportunity to get outdoors for fresh air

Last February was better than what we've had over the past 12 days

I've missed out on the snow again and just got wind and rain.  I had a feeling it would be another relatively mild and dull winter, although we have had a bit of snow here.  While I was on holiday!

Just another rant as well as an observation and this could be the last as winter comes to an end! - YET ANOTHER deja vu of last times cold spell when it has been colder and more wintry during the day and when the temperature rises throughout the night time - was down to 3c earlier and now 4.5c as the showers approach!!

Well, - at least we saw some good heavy hail showers. - This was never even forecasted to be a "proper" cold spell anyway.

I'm not usually a moaner, but…...Missed out entirely this winter  - being over in the east: They even had a bit of snow a few miles up the road. Here zilch. radar today is full of something - no reports on current weather. It missed us again whatever it was….
