Deep Powder
18 February 2015 08:09:31

As we are nearing the end of winter and everyone has Sheffield envy (they seem to have had 3 very good surprise snowfalls). I was wondering what has been your best surprise snowfall. One where the forecast predicted just a dusting, but you received a nice deep cover of snow. It is always much more satisfying to receive deep snowfall, when none was forecast! So which is your favourite?

I will start with mine. The link below shows the morning forecast on 30th November 2010 (well worth watching). You can hear Rob McElwee state a couple of times, that they did not expect anymore than a dusting for the SE throughout the day. All forecasts pointed towards us not joining the 'SNOWY PARTY' that other parts of the country had been enjoying for upto a week. The forecast could not have been more wrong. As I drove to work at 7.30am the snow had started, by 10am it was much heavier and I could see, from the metoffice radar, that a streamer had set up;we were in for a heavy fall. By 10pm the snow had abated and had left over 30cms on the downs and a good 9 inches at lower levels.
