Nice day today.. Thermometer went up and stayed there for a good while. Out in the garden the Skimmia is  still flowering well along with a blue Hebe. Saw a bee and some flies. Have TWO snowdrops in flour and one crocus...

I work in Cabary Wharf which seems to have a particularly wintry microclimate for London caused largely by wind chill. And of course scarcely any green areas where flowers could grow apart from a few bare grassy swards. So spring won't feel like it's here until around mid May. Meanwhile in the London inner burbs the daffodils have been out for a few days and the grass is showing signs of thickening.

For me though the surest sign of spring is the ever lightening evenings and mornings. No amount of cold weather can overcome this.

saw a few dead frogs in the street last weekend after the rain.. Haven't seen them in mass numbers yet.

The frogs even come into the house during the summer, strangest place we found one was upstairs in the bathroom! How on earth it got there still puzzles us. 😂

Birds chasing each other has increased.. Blue tit and TWO robins  regular in the seed tray. Still 10 or so chaffinch feeding on the ground. .Blackbirds  are protecting their own preferred feeding area...

A bit of frost on some surfaces this morning led into a beautiful day. Certainly spring has arrived and the Magnolia buds I posted before are bursting into a cream and pink colour now.

Well I was hoping for a frost free night just gone.....but no it fell to -0.9'c

Ran the moth trap anyway and finally got a moth, the first I'd seen since New Years Day.

It was pretty tatty but here's a link to what it was

Warm day today at times very warm in the sun but you could feel the chill of the air in the shade.

I'm starting to see a lot of colour everywhere now. Saw my first butterfly today too a Red Admiral but he flew away before I could get a shot.

With rare good luck, I'm having the leaking roof fixed this week and the weather is perfect for it. The builders are in today desperate to make use of the dry weather despite my reassurance that it's set fair for a few days.

Doubt it will be long before that telling sound of the first lawn mowers of spring revving up, or in my case an hour of fruitless pulling of the cord as the over-wintered mower refuses to start, followed by a trip to the petrol station for some fresh fuel.

I was hoping that today would feel like a lovely springlike day with sunshine and a Foehn effect. It started off promising but has clouded over and in the wind feels rather chilly. I was out repairing the flat roof of the bay window and it felt distinctly cool in the wind - not what I was expecting or hoping for!

Fantastic spring sunshine where it feels pleasant out of the chilly wind with shelter.  Cool with exposure out of the sun.  Plenty of Chaffinch trills  in the back garden.

First butterfly of thr year for me - a Brimstone, seen near Arundel. Also a couple of queen bumble bees around.

Strong spring sunshine all day inducing wild primroses in the woods hereabouts to bloom.  Wild garlic too making its presence felt.  Much sunlight reaching the 'forest floor'.
