It's about where I hoped it would be, without too much of a downward adjustment, although I fear there will be!

7.7C (-0.2C) here, not a warm month.

My final CET estimate for April comes in at 9.10C

The CET peaked at 9.47C on the 25th.

Warmest day of the month was last Saturday and the coldest was last Monday.

One notable temperature record this month. The UK date minimum was smashed on the 27th (Monday) when Katesbridge in Northern Ireland recorded -8.0C. The previous record was -6.1C set in Lednathie (Scotland) in 1899. The 27th of April was until this week the only day in April where we had never recorded a minimum of -7C or lower.

Shap also broke the previous record with a reading of -6.8C on the 27th.

The provisional CET minimum for the 27th of 0.2C is the 4th lowest since records began in 1878.

Awww.  A little too much downward adjustment for my 9.2 guess but not that far off.  Well done to all who got it bang on and those who got close, although we'd better wait for our leader GW to confirm.

A 0.4*C adjustment is pretty large...!

Still my lowest error in an absolute age though so I'm happy, though it's really the models that are responsible more than myself

Final CET for April is 9.03C. Congratulations to The Professional who had the closest prediction, just 0.02C out.

Here are the final tables. What is particularly interesting this month is that the minimum CET was below average whereas the maximum CET was over 2C above average and the 14th highest on record for April (although still well below the figures for 2007 and 2011).

The Spring CET is now above average but not by much.

Annual CET competition - April update

We have lost quite a few people from the competition this month. We also have a new leader this month which is marting.

Congratulations to The Professor and all the climbers.  Commiserations to those on a downer.  I managed to scrape back onto the top table, so I'm happy with that.

Thanks GW!  Another good competition with some excellent stats and info.

Thanks everyone

The anomaly maps for April show maximum temperatures well above normal in all areas away from the far north-west
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/pub/data/weather/uk/climate/anomacts/2015/4/2015_4_MaxTemp_Anomaly_1981-2010.gif

But as I noted earlier the minimums were quite low with many areas seeing more grass frosts than usual
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/pub/data/weather/uk/climate/anomacts/2015/4/2015_4_GroundFrost_Anomaly_1981-2010.gif

Away from the CET, April 2015 was the sunniest on record since records began in 1929. Detailed press release here http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/news/releases/archive/2015/sunniest-april
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/pub/data/weather/uk/climate/anomacts/2015/4/2015_4_Sunshine_Anomaly_1981-2010.gif

Some parts of eastern England have had remarkable sunshine stats this year with all four months above average.

Many places also had a very dry month with less than 20% of mean rainfall in some areas. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/pub/data/weather/uk/climate/anomacts/2015/4/2015_4_Rainfall_Anomaly_1981-2010.gif

The warmest temperature in April was 25.6C at Faversham on the 15th. Not quite a date record - previous highest for that date was 26.5C at Herstmonceux in 2007.
