I must make a note of this but where will I find the list of maximum date records by day of the year? Cheers

Well signs the pressure is rising...

Clear blue skies now, signalling dryer air, and the arrival of higher pressure.

Temp wise I'm not expecting this to be anything noteworthy in my neck on the woods. At best 25-27C and if the wind can back more E/NE maybe 28-29C.

I appreciate this is likely to be a heatwave I note for some, and possibly bring some of the highest temperatures for years to the UK..

however for myself...,

The only thing that might be of note will be tomorrow nights forecasted lol of 20C, but again this has happened a few times over recent years and temps have managed to drop into high teens...

We're really just a sideshow to the main event. This 8 day pattern for Vichy suggests the all time French record could be under threat.

You got a bit ahead of yourself. The max today was always going to be very late in the day because the uppers are rapidly rising. Gravesend was showing 26.3C at 6pm and may well have gone a bit higher than that.

It's NAVGEM. It's toilet paper. It was predicting highs in the 40s across parts of England a few days back, and widely high 30s

Think we maxed out at 26.0C in Gravesend today, its about 1C higher than the 6Z GFS predicted and a full 3C higher than yesterday's 12Z.

I really think Saturday is the one to watch out for. The models have been trending to delay that LP incursion, if we can keep the plume going through Saturday then I think we could see 36C easily.

Glorious cloudless start to the morning. Although last night was still fresh at 11c, given that 26 - 27c was achieved across the South with patchy cloud its game on today. Already up to around 16c here, with the first 20c measurements popping up now at 0740.

Enjoy; everyone who can.

Already a fraction under 17c here. That's 2c above forecast high for 8am. If that manifests at peak time we could get close to 30c today.

I think the reason for this is it was forecast to be largely cloudy here until late morning, but it's absolute wall to wall sunshine. Literally not a cloud in the sky

They are not on the normal 'weather warnings' page if that is where you were looking. They are issued on health grounds rather than primarily damage/disruption as are the other warnings so they in a different place.

Very clear this morning. Interesting to see the effect on starting temps. Currently, Wisley at 38m ASL is still at 9c whilst Biggin Hill at 183m is at 19c. About 6 miles between the two. A lot of Southern stations are starting low this morning. Be interesting to see what sort of diurnal range Wisley has by the end of the day.

Deep blue sky, lowish humidity, light variable winds: looks like a day for St James's Park or Northolt today.
