REPORT

June 2015 was an unspectacular start to the Summer with temperatures and rainfall both below average. Temperatures were lower due to the persistence of the NW wind blowing down over the region. With High pressure out to the SW of the UK for much of the month meant few Atlantic fronts brought much in the way of rain with just the 22nd bringing the wettest day total of 8mm (hardly a soaking) out of the months total of 22.2mm. There were 22 dry days and there was generally plenty of sunshine which ended up above average for the month at around 190hrs. Nights were cold through much of the month but showed signs of reaching summer values at the end of the period. There was no strong winds, hail, thunder or any other unusual weather events reported through the month.

Wow, something funky happened with the 'report' section of your post GW - it came with a very wide blank box to the side which made the page formatting do some strange things

All sorted now

June's pulled a rabbit out of the hat to save it from a poor standing this year, with the average maximum finishing just over a degree above average at 20.55*C, while the mean minimum was about half a degree below - so a very comfortable month overall.

In many ways this makes the month similar to April this year, as does the lack of much rainfall; 25.6 mm was observed which is less than half the LTA (55.1 mm). The total sunshine was some 40 hours clear of the LTA at 248.1 hours, which funnily enough is not far from April's impressive 232.4 hours.

So overall, a very acceptable month despite a disappointing start (felt as chilly as March at times). Shame that wasn't remotely true for some parts further north!

The average maximum ended up nearly a degree above average, despite the cool nights, and half of all June days were above 20C. Sunshine at Leeming clocked up over 200 hours for the month - it's not a good station for here given it's over 30 miles away, but there was definitely a lot of sunshine early on - one day at Leeming had 16 hours!. It became progressively cloudier though.

Rainfall was low - June's have tended to be dry in recent years, 2012 excluded. 17mm of the 21.8mm fell on one day. After the 2nd there was  very little to no rainfall.

Maximum temp was 30.2C on the 30th, lowest 3.8C on the 10th.

So overall - a decent month.
