Weather stations across the East Midlands are reporting a very hot 33 to 35c.

My weather station is now on 34.3c.

The hottest day here ever since I starting recording back in 2000.

Just to put this in perspective, if 36.7C is as high as it goes this will be the equal third hottest day EVER recorded in the UK.

previous top 5:

1st 38.5 10/08/2003
2nd 37.1 03/08/1990
3rd 36.7 09/08/1911
4th 36.6 02/08/1990
5th 36.5 19/07/2006

I'm enjoying watching this from Frankfurt but a bit jealous. It's a mere 33C here.

Imagine how much bigger the tension and excitement would have been if the 2003 record hadn't happened. Then we'd be chasing 37.1 at Cheltenham, August 1990 and would be painfully close.

31.9°C max. Storm come through. Spectacular lightning (not common up here) and incredible winds for about 20 seconds as the rain hit. Down to 20.6°C within about 40 minutes!

Now climbing again.

Incredible temperatures today... No thermometer where I am currently, but according to my wife a temperature of 37.0c on the thermometer has been recorded in my back garden!! Although it's well-ventilated, in the shade, well away from buildings and around 2m above ground, it's neither been calibrated nor exactly placed in weather-station-standard conditions so I don't think I'll be going to claim any records.... Besides at 160m asl, MBY is highly unlikely to exceed Heathrow temps!

My own station is currently recording 30.4 C, which is actually more than I expected given my close proximity to the sea and the wind wafting in from the south (I expected 28 C tops for here).

No high temperatures here on the Northumberland Coast. After a sunny and windy day with a max of around 20-22C we are now in the middle of a thunderstorm with heavy rain and hail.

This station is showing 39C

http://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=INORTHOL2

I know I know, but the main point is the temp rapidly rose a few mins ago, if this is mirrored by the northolt station we could get 37C.

Well I would point out that this is a result of high uppers and mainly strong sunshine. This point was made the other day in response to people who doubted we would get to 32'c despite +20'c 850 hPa air aloft. Lesson learned I hope.
Meanwhile I'll be celebrating with some Westons Cider and a kebab shortly 🙂
