If we get a lot of cloud (from for example dry storms) that will be a good way to keep the temperature up.

23.8C to beat the all time record

23.1C to beat the July record.

Yes it is but surprised not mentioned much about the heatwave on the 10pm BBC News as it should had been at the first headline for a record being broken.

This heatwave will be remember of What if the clouds didn't come and how high the temps will reach? This will play in my mind as we waited 9 years to get this heat in July and how long we are going to wait again to have another attempt without clouds around?  Good experience to come out at work on break time to feel the 36C heat at 5pm so I won't forget.  Then a record 29C at 9pm from my car thermo when I finished work.  HIghest was 27C on 1st August 2013 when 35C was reached here.

Just watched the high-based storms across Cheshire from the ridge in Marple. Almost constant C2C, with one huge C2G which I estimate was over Bolton area.

Worth keeping an eye on temperatures in Belgium and Holland tomorrow and again on Saturday. There is an outside chance of the national record being broken in both countries.

Current record is 38.8C in Belgium and 38.6C in Holland which of course is very close to the UK record.

The chart for tomorrow afternoon from the NMM model has a 38C shown on the chart in Holland. Widespread >37C

Potentially very severe situation with number of question marks will develop over parts of UK. As the plume of steep lapse rates overspreads the low level airmass characterised by dewpoints of 16 - 18 deg C, moderate degree of latent instability will develop over the region. CAPE values will stay mostly between 500 - 1500 J/kg, but some models allow up to 2000 J/kg of CAPE, especially over N England / S Scotland. Strong flow at low to mid-troposphere will result in 15 - 25 m/s of 0-3 and 0-6 km bulk wind shear, values well conducive for organised convection. Furthermore, veering of wind with height will favour curved hodographs and more than 200 m2/s2 of SREH in the 0-3 km layer. Such conditions would be very conducive for supercells, probably in the HP mode, or bow echoes, as much of the wind shear is confined to the surface to 700 hPa layer. Large (or even very large hail), damaging winds and even tornadoes (especially in the northern part of Lvl 2 with low LCLs) could accompany such well organised storms.

Matty, keep in mind what you are feeling now is what everyone else on TWO feels when a warm front turns the snow to rain.

24.5c at 11pm last night but things did cool down considerably in the second half of the night to give a 6am minimum temperature of 16.0c. Despite the early night heat I slept like a log.

Warming up again now, 19.3c, but not on the rapid scale it did yesterday. Thundery rain in two or three hours will surpress temperatures today too.

Top temperature of 29C Tuesday & 28C yesterday - these are just a couple of very warm summers days, and by no stretch were they 'Hot'.

Time for a warm NE I think, you kent folk can chill under the cold breeze and we southern folk can sweat in heat 😜

So to answer your question yes I do like a heatwave. Two consecutive days of 28-29C don't constitute as a heatwave in my books, 5 or more days @ 27-30C would be heatwave, or 3 days 29-31C. Getting above 31C down here is quite rare, though in isolated heat traps within the city this is probably a little less rare.

As much as I did get excited over seeing that temperature record being toppled yesterday, I'm glad that the silly heat was quite short lived and is now quickly becoming a memory. Like I said, I don't mind a nice drop of sunshine and a bit of warmth to gladden the soul but yesterday was just too much to bear (reminds me too much of my tomato greenhouses days). Thankfully I did get to have a good night's sleep last night so I'm not being all cranky and special today.
A pity that us Kent Folks aren't being rewarded with a good light show as compensation for putting up with the heat and humidity but I guess that will be for another day as there is still the rest of this summer yet to come.

I guess it depends to some extent on what you are used to as regards what you think of as hot. Yesterday I recorded 28.9C and I most certainly consider that to be 'hot'. That could very well be the highest temperature I record all year.
