Dougie.....Sunderland are in safe hands with Steve Bruce ! He is a decent manager and on the whole Sunderland are a fairly decent team. They get the odd poor result but also manage to get the odd suprise one too !! Although behind Newcastle at the moment i think Sunderland will finish above the magpies come May !

Tottenham are dropping too many points from being possible contendors they are now looking more likely to be a team fighting for a European place. Tottenham's first XI are more than capable of giving any team a beating, however most teams nowadays can /do seldom play their best XI either through injuries or by mangers rotation. Spurs do need to get players fit and they do need to strengthen the team to compete at the top of the premiership. Bale is still young and he has had a few high profile performances that he duly got praised for but he has to perform more often as he has been posted missing in action in many games which has probably been noted by a few possible admirers of Bale.

Tonight we see a Manchester derby with Man U hit hard by injuries and a virus, Chelsea at home to Fulham and Arsenal away at Wolves. Chelsea have a 100% home record and you wouldnt bet against them grabbing all 3 pts, the Manchester derby could go either way tho City may have the edge as Man U have injury worries but have the experince and mentality to overcome this, Arsenal could sweep Wolves aside easily or they may forget to turn up who knows with Arsenal !

Only 4pts seperate positions 6 - 17th in the premiership !! Incredible

Quite right. We need a top class striker in addition to Defoe. Problem is, I can't think of an obvious candidate. The midfield? One of the best, if not the best, in the PL - all in my biased opinion of course; hence we don't need players there. Defence? I'm not too worried there either TBH. The injury list at the back is bad at the moment, but Dawson will be coming back soon. Not sure about King though.

A couple of other points.

1- I detest Howard Webb.

2- If this season has shown us anything at all it has shown us that the PL is more competitive. Spurs' woeful performances against Wigan and West Ham aside, who would have expected Arsenal to lose at home to West Brom and Newcastle. Or Chelski to lose away to Liverpool. Just kidding about the last one

IMO.. Spurs have enough goals in them i do not see the need for another striker there is plenty of firepower there and Van der Vaart is scoring freely. I would maybe slightly disagree with midfield situation.. i do feel a little bit more steel and energy is required someone who can take the game by the scruff of the neck and get in amongst it. Defence does need to be strengthened only if cos of injuries.. tho i do hope Arry persists in playing Hutton i really liked the lad at Rangers and Spurs paid good money for him !!

Nothing can be taken for granted this season.... Man U still unbeaten !

Spurs already have a couple of players in this role i.e. Palacios and Sandro. Now I'll admit that Wilson is a bit off form and hopefully will get some back soon. He can certainly put it about.

Sandro, despite his error against Bolton, will, I believe, become an important player for Spurs - good at getting hold of the ball and, unlike Palacios, good with the ball. Style wise, he reminds me of Viera, though obviously has a long way to go to be as good as the great man (what a player). Some in the Brazilian media see him as the long term replacement for Gilberto Silva, although Thiago or Ramires may have something to say about that.

It's quite amazing really that less than a month ago Liverpool were in 18th spot, but as it stands right now they're in 5th place!!!.........just show's how close things are in the Premiership right now

Sounds almost as bad as when they played us at WHL with THREE holding players in midfield. Joe Hart stole two points for them that day.

I like Mick McCarthy's quote, not that I necessarily agree with him.

'He's gone for the ball, so I've no problem. Their player has aluminium studs and Wardy has got a big cut on his leg. Fabregas has apologised and Wardy has accepted it like a man. It's like a throwback to the days when you've broken someone's nose and buy them a pint at the bar. '

Apologies for being off topic here but I could not find any reference to the Scottish Leagues anywhere. Apparently the last time Rangers and Celtic where beaten by their Edinburgh counterparts Hibs and Hearts on the same day, was in 1972.

Excellent piece by Martin Samuel as to how far Citeh still have to go to fight with the big boys. It is amazing, given the millions spent, just how dismal this team is under Mancini. But of course Mancini is probably the problem.

Grinding out goalless draws with your perceived competitors, especially at home, isn't going to get Citeh a CL spot. I expect Mancini to be gone by the end of the season at this rate, if not by January.

At least Woy has the 'luxury' of telling his owners he doesn't have a tremendous amount of talent at his disposal. Mancini's fingerprints are all over Citeh, which on paper should wipe the floor with the likes of Liverpool. It should also be giving Utd a run for its money, instead of acting like rabbits in front of car headlights.

Until Citeh's visit to WHL earlier in the season I couldn't remember the last time a team employed three holding midfielders. This is 'parking the bus in front of goal' territory.

Citeh fans will no doubt be wallowing in the glory of being the world's best financed club. But then again, it counts for diddly squat if the manager is scared of his own shadow and has balls the size of a gnat.

In the MotD interview, what he said was [not verbatim] "I've spoken with Cesc and he says it was accidental"

He may have given a further interview where he said "I think it was accidental..... it was completely accidental." Or Goal.com may have 'sexed-up' what he actually said to get a headline.

Joey Barton back to his old ways again. Him and Andy Carroll on a night out with Lee Bowyer would be one to avoid

I think this weekends games for Man U and Arsenal are crucial. Both very tricky away matches which are must win games..drop points and i feel Chelsea may well start to go into overdrive and be out of sight.
