The air feels primed for a storm. The sun is now trying to break through and in the process it's turned rather misty.

Just and hour or two of sunshine I think is all that is needed for something big.

The storm that passed over the bradford / keighley area last night was the most incredible thunderstorm I've ever witnessed.
Almost constant lightning and absolutely torrential precip with hail up to 3-4cm!
The whole street tuned into a river of water and ice at the height of it, and unfortunately quite a few things in the garden have been totally shredded by the hail, and my car roof has dents!

Can confirm a few rumbles of thunder here in Folkestone, and the rain is starting to become heavy. Quite murky and misty too.

Just had an interesting experience here in Hythe as outflow from the cell in the channel spread across rapidly as a bank of fog. It was accompanied by one crack of thunder, a 3 minute spell of 15-20mph SE'ly winds and some moderate rain. The temperature dropped to 16.2c at the time but has climbed a little since, currently 17.4c.


Clearing up now.

A much warmer and more humid airmass here than out west (26c with 16-18c DPs), so chance for storms to develop ahead or along of this cold front as the warmer/more humid air is forced upwards. I don't think the chances are great however - I suspect an intensification of the cold front to heavy rain rather than a proliferation of storms.

Yes, it was only 19 C here ahead of the front and now it's down to 17 C - some intense fine rain now. A strong westerly flow suddenly arrived here so things could readily kick off further east, going by the momentum of this surface cool air

It was 25C earlier - now 23C but still humid. Hopefully enough to generate some storms.


Plus high CAPE is mostly restricted to the Pennines east.

I didn't see the Manchester storm from the ground, but did get a great view holding on an Easyjet flight waiting to get into the airport.

The SE corner looks very capped later on, but would not rule out some isolated storms.

Many models showing two "chunks" of threat - one driving up from SW/Wales/W.Mids/N. England, and another going from IOW up toward the Wash.

Dry at first before thunderstorms develop from the south. Localised torrential downpours likely through the early hours of Saturday with hail/gusty winds also possible. The thunderstorms should clear soon after dawn. Some coastal low cloud, and feeling warm and muggy. Minimum Temperature 15°C.

Sod all for the south east again tonight by the looks of it! If we have to deal with the unbearable heat and humidity at least give us a decent storm or two! The west and north west look to get hammered though, plenty of pictures please!

I wouldn't rule yourself out in the SE, although storms that do form likely to be isolated, but intense. The problem further west is that we may end up with a flabby un-electrified convective mess. The sweet spot will probably be to the east of this rain, which looks like it might be... Lincolnshire of course!
