Let's be fair, Nick - the only type of weather that causes no bother for anyone is the type of weather that you find along the coast of California - extremely tepid, very mild, almost no variation at all, barely a 5 degree change between the coldest and warmest months. The type of heat so many of us were clamouring over on Wednesday is actually very dangerous to a lot of people - so the same question could be asked.. why would anyone want that?

It's just interesting though - that's why we're all here, right? Because we find weather interesting.

I find more types of weather boring than interesting. Any type of rain you care to mention. Cold weather. Fog and murk. That's three quarters of our annual weather there alone.

Snow is fun with the right equipment (at least a car with suitable non low profile rubber fitted and preferably something with  4 wheel drive)  but a general  PITA otherwise.

I think balancing the "majesty" of nature with potential  pecuniary disadvantage gets more prevalent with age - and particularly ownership of things that are expensive to mend (houses, cars etc).    Before I had these things I used to long for  deep,  disruptive snow !

Where is the least offensive weather anywhere? Probably some high altitude tropical city with days in the low 20s, no wet or dry season, sporadic short showers and no frost. I think Quito is supposed to be a bit like that, and maybe others like Medellin or Addis Ababa.

I like warm summery weather, but I also like weather that is statistically interesting. The deluge of winter 2013/14 for example, any gusts of wind over 100mph, long droughts, this week's record (and the bizarre fact that the hottest temperature of June was officially 32.5C at Heathrow at 9am on the first of July, because of the way they record the meteorological day!)

I'm not looking forward to it. Couple of days ago a massive storm missed us by about 2 miles. 3 houses were hit, gardens were flattened, and thousands of cars were covered in dents from the hail. Close call. Why anyone wants that I don't know.

I know that a lot of people can't get enough of them, but I've never thought of them as my idea of entertainment. They are spectacular to watch, but they can be downright dangerous as well and that is something that I reckon some people forget about. You mentioned that 3 houses not far from you were hit by lightning; I'm willing to bet that one of those was the one I saw on BBC News on Thursday which had it's roof almost totally destroyed. Scary stuff!

Already at the forecast of 24*c here, the breeze is nice but it's back to a warm breeze, looks like could get to 27*c perhaps?

A another toasty lunchtime here at 25C. Heavy thunderstorms followed by continued heat seems a relatively rare phenomenon in these parts. Lulled by the short term cooling effect of the overnight storms, MrsN and daughter decided to go for a bike ride this morning and have just come back looking like a pair of lobsters

There was some extremely heavy rain last night, think it was about 12.30ish but I didn't check the time. A few flashes but the rain was so loud it drowned out the sound of the thunder.

I like a nice heavy downpour, but overnight is the best time for it, when you can hear it and don't have to go out in it!

A respectable 27C here at 4pm. I suppose I could get used to this. Unlikely to get the opportunity though.

Heres our local paper reporting on last night. Most people I've seen today didn't get any sleep until about 3am when it passed over. As report days, the most dramatic lightning ever

My station holding up well in heat for accuracy. Recorded 29.7c only slightly more than the Airport 10 miles away. Been great hot spell here. Last 7 days max were 21,25,27,31,28,23,29 with 70 hours of sunshine. 21c currently and rising with clear blue skies again. Have sneaking suspicion the forthcoming rain belt might slip to the east as it sometimes does here.

I can't complain because of had a great time of things weather wise for quite some time, however it's amazing how many Sundays have been rain and gloomy but then by the evening when it's a touch to late to enjoy it the sky clears to leave a sunny clear night

There were a couple of rumbles of thunder earlier amongst a heavier burst of rain.

It's 14.5C at the moment, shame it won't stay that way for the rest of the day! (Finally gone below 25C indoors too.... result!)
