Precip type radar is picking up sleet over the cairngorns!

Also its a shame the band of rain is not in Scotland, if it had been I'm sure we would have broken the record. 10-13C under the rain with the superzero uppers, in N scotland its 9-12C with the subzero uppers but without the rain. You need both.

Still not sure why this is surprising. To see what conditions may be like on Cairngorm you only have to track the 850's and 0'c surely isn't that rare, even in July?

It is pretty rare,  GW has listed a few charts where the 0C line comes over the UK but it isn't that common at all, and I expect snow is down to unusually low levels as-well, particularly later (I recon 700m is possible) and we could even see a covering above that.

Generally speaking July-Early September is snow dry for the whole UK even the mountains.

crickey I couldn't imagine a July day failing to reach 10C down here, I wonder what it would take for that to happen.

the north may as well be on a different planet when it comes to temperatures in Summer. A cloudier cooler day today but with temperatures dancing between 20-22c here in Kent. I suspect a cheeky 23c has been scraped in London.

I've had 23C down here, I suspect somewhere like Hurn, Thorney, or even Shoreham will get the warm spot.

The high for today was 18C in the morning, but it went downhill quite quickly. If it wasn't for the incoming rain I suspect it would have gotten to around 23c.

Four lives on the North York moors so is understandably very cool. It's quite a bit warmer closer to sea level.

it's 11.4C right now which is very cool for the time of night but a few cool nights in July is par the course really. Might get down to 9C at this rate which admittedly would be our first low below 10c in exactly 2 weeks. Today was also our first high below 20C in exactly two weeks, so..

I did hear on Radio 4 this morning that the temperature got down to +0.6 C at Katesbridge, Co. Down last night. I can't seem to find anything online to confirm it, but I seem to recall the announcer saying that it was a record low for July for N.I. If this is correct(and at that hour of the morning it's entirely possible that I dreamed it!), Quantam will have been vindicated in opening this thread

Nearest station to me in the west of Ireland recorded its lowest July max since 1994 on Tuesday last.

Feel I should resurrect this thread. Northerly winds are going to be unusually frequent until the months end at least, and with the Atlantic arctic unusually cold some more 0C 850hpa incursions look probable. When combined with rainfall (which is likely given the LP domination) we have a lot more chances to attempt to break the records (either lowest july maximun or lowest july minimun).
