Its the 15th of July meaning that's it midway through 'meteorological summer'

Locally June was a mainly dry and sunny month. There were an abundance of cool nights, especially at first but things warmed up with time, especially by day. July has been consistently warm and increasingly humid. Apart from some thundery rain on Sunday 5th July its been mainly dry this month too.

The 564 dam thickness line has been a regular feature down here and we sit tantalisingly close to some of the extreme heat occuring in France.

This summer is 'up there' at the moment with the better ones. I shall give it a reasonable 8/10 so far. If the heat can be released northwards in the second half of summer it will be potentially exceptional.

How are things shaping up for the rest of you ?

A very decent and predominately dry couple of months here. Often warm and quite sunny. This summer so far has been excellent here. Only unrealistic expectations would say otherwise.

Up to now I give it an 8/10

I'd say a 7/10. Chilly nights in May and June and a cold wind spoiled things a bit, but we have had lots of sunny, pleasant and dry weather so I have had lots of meals out in the garden, always a good mark of summer. July hasn't been too good so far, though, after the lovely hot start. This week has seen a lot of low cloud and drizzly rain, albeit welcome for the garden.

I am going to be in Devon next week and was hoping for some decent beach weather. That now looks unlikely, with any warmth confined to the far SE, so that will likely colour my opinion and put this summer into the rather average category,

A pretty normal summer here.  Some hot days, some warm nights, not many cold days and a bit of rain now and then.   Hasn't been wall to wall sunshine every day and most days the temp has failed to reach 35c, so obviously very disappointing for those who think we live in the middle of Africa, but otherwise exactly what you expect in England.

So far in term of sunshine levels in June to now had been 9/10 as we see a lot of sunny weather bar this polluted week so out of 5 weeks of 6 week so far had been great.

Rainfall had been little so at 9/10 since it allow us to have many usable days.

Winds had been a horror as it been too strong even during the heatwave.  2/10

Temps wise haven't been good as it was a cool side most of the time in June but more warmer in July and the 1 day heat out of 45 days does not counted as it too short to notice. 4/10.

Summer 2013 was better than this one as there was series of hot spells that lasted over 3-4 days at a time.

Complete mixed bag - which, I guess, is a typical British summer.

June lacked any substantial heat and had cool nights. On the plus side, winds tended to be from south of west, so we had fewer days with rain (N Wales mountains giving us a rain shadow). It felt just about OK overall

July started off great, but we've struggled with being on the border of nice and rubbish. Forecasts even from the day before have been substantially wrong. Winds have, annoyingly, been from north of west so that feeds showers in off the Irish Sea (the N Wales mountains working against us, as they funnel cloud/PPN inland W->E). It's felt wetter than June, but frequently muggy - especially at night.

Overall, not too bad but also not good. I still get the terrors when I think back to the summers of 2007-2012, and this year's not been nearly as bad as those.

5.5/10 so far

Probably best summed up as mediocre up here Steve.

June was drier than average and temps were almost bang on average but sunshine was below average so it was far from inspiring.

Last July was great here but this July has been wet (already passed the monthly average) with sunshine at a premium.

Certainly not the horror show of the worst of the 2007-12 summer months but no better than 3.5/10 from me.

Decent.

June started off on a cool note - particularly at night - but warmed up quickly, and ended up average (with daytime temperatures slightly above). Rainfall was low, and sunshine was high.

July, so far, has been alright - first week was particularly warm. No nights below 10C at all. A little wet, but nothing long-lasting. A decent amount of sunshine, if a little below average. Only complaint is that some days were quite nice and warm, but around 5/6pm we had rain for about half an hour to an hour. Admittedly short-lived, but still annoying, and always made it feel cooler once it cleared.

Average high for July here so far is 22.8C, which is above the LTA of 21.2C. Even if you remove the first hot day, it's still 22.0C. No denying that it's been a relatively warm month.

Around 6.5/10.

Good reports so far. smile

The scores are definitely showing the NW/SE split in fortunes this summer.

The last couple of summers were decent but locally nowhere near as good as further north. From memory northern areas enjoyed a lot of fine and sunny weather with high pressure nearly overhead, whereas here in the extreme SE we were plagued by a persistent cooler NE'ly flow being on the periphery.

I would describe it as being a "useful" type of summer at this end so far this season. Not too cold, not too hot, not too dry and not too wet. Yes, there was that short burst of heat at the opening day of July but I almost missed it by blinking - and anyway I'm grateful it was a short lived affair as I and my elderly mother found that a real struggle.
There has been some browning of grass due to the extended dry spells and not really having had too much in the way of precipitation, although there was that week of fresh to strong north easterlies in June and I think it is that what really sucked the moisture out of the soil. Anyhow, the recent dampness is bringing the colour back to my lawn as I type this.

I'll give it 7.8342/10. We've had worse summers in the past, but we've also had better ones . . . and anyway, it's like what has been said, it is still quite early days. The real test is yet to come with the school summer holiday and so expectations will be higher. Last year was weird on how it turned quite wet and unsettled in August, as if ex-Bertha came along and unsettled everything (but again, we have had worse) - and yet September turned out to be the more summer-like month.

In Northern Ireland I'd describe as taking on the characteristics of a classic mid-1980's summer.
Often cool and dull. Reasonably dry so far but looks like making up any rainfall deficit quite soon. :-(
Only a couple of short lived warmer interludes and some unusually cool nights.
Another air frost at Katesbridge Co Down last night - only the 7th time that air frost as occurred in NI in July since 1959.
On the plus side - great for sleeping!

Based on what we should expect an English summer to be, I would give this year, so far, 7.5/10 - quite acceptable, though some room for improvement (we haven't had a frost down here yet, for starters )

Useful sums it up. Plenty of sunshine until this week, not much rain, decent daytime temperatures but some cool nights. Again, until this week, very low humidity. I've been able to put on t-shirt and shorts after work at least half the days since mid June.

The biggest downside about this summer has been the comparison with our near neighbours on the continent. We are a couple of hundred miles North of an area that is currently on track to beat the August 2003 record for hottest ever month. So in that context even the South East has been in near miss territory. By contrast last July we had a decent month while France had one of its wettest ever, and there was snow in Alpine resorts.

For heat - 4/10

For dryness - 8/10

Sunshine - 6/10

June was a fairly windy and cool month with poor overnight temps. Rainfall totals where around average.

July so far has been fairly decent by day for temps with some very warm days, but it's been lacking any real heat. Nights have generally been around average baring a couple of extremes at both ends of the scale. Unlike June it's been very dry so far this month.

Completely mixed for me in Leigh near Manchester really and just left feeling a little bit frustrated this July.

June was fairly dry and turned out an ok month overall. It did lack heat although ended on a warmer note.

July started with so much promise but the heat was over as soon as it started with those big thunderstorms on July 1st. Since then it has been on and off without being too good or too bad. It hasn't been a washout though and there have been a number of sunny days. Seeing people sweating in the sun at Wimbledon whilst it's 16C and drizzling in your own back garden is the best way of seeing the North West/South East split in action!

After the last two Julys and the start of this July, with heat being so close, I have been disappointed with what we ended up with. Compared to the disaster summers of 07-12 though, it has been ok. I will rate it 5/10 so far

An unmitigated disaster. Ridiculously awful horror show adding further to the extreme and unprecedented lack of summer sunshine and excess of rainfall since 2007. Miserable, depressing, overcast and raining day in day out. Anytime there is even a hint of improvement it is extinguished in the next model run.

94mm of rain so far this month and on track to have the wettest July since 1970 when Aberdeen had its wettest ever day with 109mm at Mannofield on the 24th.

Sunshine has been an utter joke - less in the past 30 days than in both January and February - and temperatures dire. Apart from 27C on the 2nd July and a few other days, while I was abroad, that climbed to 20C it has struggled to reach average. 10C yesterday evening, overnight and this morning and only 11C at noon. Even when the sun came out in the afternoon, for the first time in 3 days, it got no higher than 14.1C which is just desperately poor for the warmest time of year

Overall not quite as bad as 2007 or 2012 yet - probably on a par with 2011 - but needless to say worse than anything I recall from prior to 2007. Even the likes of 1993 and 1998 seem like paradise compared to the 10th rate dross we've been subjected over the past 9 years

Not one of our better summers in Edinburgh (so far) Slightly cooler and duller than average. Average rainfall. Max 23 C in the morning at the beginning of July before the sea breeze but hardly any evenings to sit out so 4/10 for me...but two 5 day trips down to Nottingham.....was like being on holiday in Spain (in comparison) both trips warm and humid. Rarely do we get warm humid conditions up here and never overnight...always fresh!

I'd rate things at average to slightly above in my locaality. I can recall only one day in the past few weeks that wasn't "useable", and temperatures have got into the low twenties on a regular basis with some good sunshine. A few storms thrown in as well, so I can't complain too much.

Here locally in western Ireland, summer maxima and minima are below par for the period  at -1.1c & -0.5c respectively. A little drier than average though with about a 10mm deficit for the period in question. Highest max has been unusually low at just below 22.0c with very few (about 3 or 4) days actually exceeding 20.0c which is very unusual with daytime temps frequently hovering around the mid teens.

Sunshine hours below average and a shocking lack of thunder with only one day with thunder observed - and even that was from a weak, distant storm.

All in all, a very mediocre and forgettable summer so far with nothing 'stand out' as of yet.

8/10 for me.  Dry - good,  Sunnier than average - good.  June and July daytime maxes above the LTA - good.  Thunderstorms - good. Exceptional heatwave -  Hottest temperature recorded in 10 years on the Davis VP2- good.

Swimming pool used frequently, solar panels drinking in the insolation, electric car feeding off panels, very good.

French and Spanish heat will ooze north again - good.

A fairly good first half to summer 2015.  As an allotment holder, more rain would have been welcome.  The last 4 days have been mostly cloudy but have only produced 4mm of rain, could have done with 40.  Six weeks only 25.8mm.  Still rather that, than weeks of cool wet weather. 7/10.
