Appears to be conveyor belt of storms extending from Pompey, through Surrey, Slough, skirting western edge of London and travelling on to Hertfordshire. I have to be up at 0415, gonna be grumpy at work tomorrow. 😁

Lightning to my north east looks fairly impressive I must say. Too far away to hear anything though.

Anyway, at this end, the Kent Weather Shield seems to be holding up well at the moment, but it was more or less as per my own expectations anyway. I'm gonna turn in now, perhaps there may be a last minute surprise via a "forcing" effect in the small hours as the cold front edges in from the west before the window of opportunity closes for good by dawnbreak.

I can see it here in WGC Rubberduck, sferics are showing a line of cells firing up from the south west to hit Hertfordshire square on. More IC this time & little thunder, on its way to you Dee Dee.

Just cycled home from Welwyn Garden City centre. Torrential rain. Frequent thunder and lightning overhead. I got soaked to the skin. Still raining heavily now with more thunder and lightning.

Stevenage seems to be getting some direct hits from that last cell...

Seems to be a line firing off NE of the main storm and although I am right on the coast I am seeing the lightning and hearing far off thunder. tongue-out

As round 2 flickers of in the NE distance. Round 3 is heading in although not as intense as the first 2. There is alot of C/C. not a great deal of thunder.. The rain with the last lot was really impressive.

Been just to the west of here, so little rain, but seen some decent CG strikes and loads of sheet lightning

You're perfectly placed Rubberduck, especially with a clearer line of sight & the fields surrounding the Garden Village. Much more built up here, but seem again (just like the previous storm a few weeks ago) to see definite demarcation of cells to the east v west.

It's interesting to see a similar pattern to the previous storm, with sequential cells sparking up around Harrow/Watford then travelling North East (almost following the A1(M) ) through WGC, Stevenage, Letchworth & into Cambs.

Seems to be quite a difference in lightning rates between the Met Office and Lightningmaps.org. Can anyone in the area vouch for which appears to be the most accurate?

Can agree with lightning.org as it came right overhead here with heavy but shortlived rain. Lost power for about 20 mins. All going out to sea now but can still hear it.

Lightning had/has eased back to the odd flash, but some new cells to the south now

One long rumble here in heavy rain at 0535..enough to wake me. Lashing rain here now, heaviest for some time.
I see we have two thunder threads again!
Why not have one for heat and one for convection ?

Never really stopped hearing thunder til about 2 am. An hour later it started all over again with several close CGs.  Thunder was the type that went on forever and made the windows rattle. Power lost again at about 4 am, only just come back on. Internet very slow.

All in all a very good night for storm watching, not so good for sleeping!!

Was quite a event in Stevenage last night ,went on for around a hour and half. Checked my rain gauge this morning got a whopping 45mm from last night !!! .We even got the only EA flood warning in the country.

No thunder here last night (thankfully!), but must have had at least 4-5 hours or so of torrential rain, as it began not long before midnight and it was still hammering it down at around 4am. Thankfully it had departed by the time I headed out to work this morning!
