Remarkably dry so far this month across some parts of central southern England (basically anywhere that has missed the thundery showers).

I have recorded just 4.4mm this month which is consistent both with other reports on here and also some official stations.

Closest official station to me is Odiham which has recorded 6.4mm this month (13% of the long run average for the whole of July).

Elsewhere Isle of Portland has received just 7.8mm and Middle Wallop 8.4mm.

Total rainfall so far this summer is very low in many southern areas. Not exceptionally so but if August is also very dry then we could see one of the driest summers on record here in the south.

Up to 118.2mm - my wettest summer month on record and very close to the wettest July locally since 1970. Just a few more mm will beat 1993's total.

Previous July totals since my records began in 2005. Last year is the only one since 2009 drier than the estimated 81-10 average of 54.2mm

2005: 42.6mm

2006: 29.2mm

2007: 108.0mm

2008: 42.6mm

2009: 96.8mm

2010: 101.0mm

2011: 63.8mm

2012: 88.0mm

2013: 65.6mm

2014: 40.6mm

Summer total is 160.2mm almost at the average of 163.2mm already so guaranteed to have an 8th wetter than average summer out of 9. It's beyond depressing

So far we have seen a months worth of rain today.

Currently 32mm

This puts the total for the month at 37mm 😊

Considering how dry it's been in years to come people will look at the stats and not realise how dry it's been.

June saw average amounts of rain with the final 11 days being dry, and up to the 24th July only 5mm had fallen - 5 weeks in high summer with warmth and only a 5mm.
24 July 2015 21:53:46

Currently at 25.6mm since 0z today. Wettest day for a very long time.
