After a dark day with much needed rain this event here on the south coast of Devon is over now. Its stopped raining but there's still heavy cloud cover. Temperature is still low at 13.2c and today's rainfall stands at 23mm.

30 mm so far , in dry slot at the moment but looks like lots more rain to the southwest. Widely 27mm to 30 mm at various East Berks stations. No wonder barley was being harvested at midnight last night

As modelled, turning into quite a soaker today with bursts of very heavy rain punctuating the merely moderate. Very dark clouds, some with evil-looking low-hanging tendrils. House lights on already. Feels like we've been time-warped into late November rather than late July.

Rain commenced at about 11.30 in the morning at mine - About 3.00pm it intensified and was heavy for about 3 hours. Seems to be easing off now.

Must have got 3/4 of an inch in that lot.

Temperatures no higher than 14C all day.

Rain started later here than elsewhere. Arriving around 5.30pm.

8.6mm fell in the first 90 minutes when it did arrive. Its eased off now but skies are darkening to the SSW and you really wouldn't rule out thundery showers here in the next couple of hours.

Currently 14.2c after an afternoon maximum of 19.2c
