Top temperature today just 20.3C (Heathrow and St James Park). Third day in a row that nowhere in the UK has reached 21C.

Not that unusual for July. Same thing happened on 10-12 July 2012.

At least in 2012 we had two noteable and lenghthy hot spells; last 10 days of May 2012 and this very week as now,end July/early august. This year one day on the 1st July.

As ive mentioned in other threads I think summer(all 1 month of it) has gone and it aint coming back

Go to California if you want that.  Yes it is hot and sunny lately across France e.t.c . As far as i am concerned it can stay there . Who wants to work in 40 degree heat? on a regular basis. First time we have a warm night e.g over 20 degrees , everyone says they cant sleep.  LOL

Wow! This must be close on a record here for July...

Note the indoor temperature too, remarkable.

EDIT: Bottomed out at 6.0C in the end. Truly incredible for late July, when low to mid double figures would be expected as a minimum.

5.2C here this morning, only beaten by 3.8C on the 26th.
These are more like September minimums.

Low of 0.9C at Sennybridge this morning. Grass temps below zero in a number of locations including Pershore and Benson.

Station record low July minima recorded here with 7.6c, smashing the old record by 1.2c.  2015 now holds both the record maximum (34.3c IIRC) and record minimum for July.  As David Coleman would have said "remarkable".

2 degrees at Exeter this morning and 4 degrees at Martin Down  near Damerham so probably a ground frost very briefly.  Coldest run of July nights i can remember here. . Last year we had two ground frosts in August and that is fairly unusual. Quite disorientating early in the morning and seems for a few hours Autumnal.

3.1'c at my unofficial thermometer this morning. In 40 years of monitoring temps in Essex and Hampshire I've seen nothing even close to that for a July minimum

The minimum CET return for today, 31 July, is estimated by me at 5.3C

Pershore got down to 2.7C but both Rothamsted and Stonyhurst were well above 6C.

The minimum CET series only goes back to 1878. Today's minimum of 5.3C is the fifth coldest July reading in that series and the coldest for any 31st July. Previous coldest 31 July was 6.5C in 1898.

The coldest July CET minimums are:

4 July 1965      4.7C
11 July 1888    5.1C
12 July 1902    5.1C
8 July 1929      5.2C
31 July 2015    5.3C EST

So today saw the lowest July CET minimum since 1929.

Colder local minimums have been recorded more recently. For example the coldest July minimum in England was on 17 July 1965 with -1.7C at Kielder Castle. But in terms of widespread minimums across the country this morning was probably the coldest start to a July day since 1929.

Looking back at 8 July 1929 it was a very cold day as a wedge of high pressure moved across the UK with winds generally light and northerly. Temperatures widely started the day between 39F and 43F in many places from north to south across the UK with local grass minimums below 32F. Daytime maximums were also low, the highest being right along the south coast with 67F reported at Bournemouth and 66F at Portsmouth, Weymouth and Torquay.

Another very cool start today with the 9.0c representing the coldest July minimum temperature for 8 years two mornings ago being repeated again this morning. The temperature soon climbed after 7am in the strong summer sun.

It says a lot about this summer when the Met Office regional forecast Monday in particular as being "warmer than of late" and forecasts (along with the BBC) predict a max temperature of 16°C which is still over two degrees below average! Technically his is correct of course but it just shows how poor things have been. Would 18°C (average) be thought of as a heatwave!

What a ridiculous attempt of a summer.
