Can't quite decide what's worse in summer. Snow or the putrid vile dark wet murk we had all day today.

Since coming home and needing to put a light on already I'm leaning towards the latter

As the rain spray around in a strong southerly wind thus making the current temp of 16 C feel bleak, is it too soon for me to say I'm already bored of this Autumn?

This summer has been on par with 2011,very cool and very little sustained warmth, pretty poor and forgettable.

In reality imby this summer lasted a 1 month mid june to mid july, its felt autumnal since then, bar the odd day.

A big  for summer 2015

Perceptions of Summer 2015 continue to lower as each passing late August day delivers another washout. The woeful conditions in the north from earlier in the summer eventually found there way southwards to reach the far south. Peoples memories are short. Few will remember the fine summerlike weather in the south until circa 10th July and the average but reasonable conditions that prevailed until Mid August.

'Perception' will reveal possibly unfairly a 6/10 summer now here in the far SE. Based on facts and stats it should be a little better but with the beaches empty and kids penned indoors perceptions are often a more accurate than hard facts and figures.

..time to move on, autumn now please.

Overall I now feel that this summer belongs in the below average category . This August which seems to be deteriorating by the day can no way be put in the decent category.

So, August is certainly going to be the best summer month in this part of the world - by far - and will almost certainly end up above average, albeit slightly. 1981-2010 average max in August  is 21C and it's currently running at 21.5C, and will fall only slightly over the next few days.

Couldn't care less about hot weather - August 2015 gets a thumbs up from me, for being very pleasant.

It has been dreadful down south, but so what? Makes a change to the usual divide - and I can't say for one second that I'm not a teeny bit pleased.

Despite the disappointing summer this neck of the pond, its certainly not the worst. Lack of decent sunshine and heat were big factors. I have relatives who are farmers in the West of Ireland, Despite all the gloom they managed to get more than enough silage and have commenced harvesting some of their crops. So it hasnt been disasterous by any means.

Given our location and what you might expect from a "normal" UK summer its probably 6/10 from me.

It was certainly pretty dry early on although that has changed in August.

The two things of note for me have been a lack of sustained warmth and a lack of thundery activity although some places have done rather better on the latter point.

As sometimes happens September is showing early signs of some good weather after an uninspiring summer

My view is that it is now an average (but reasonable) 6/10. There have been too many disappointing Sunday's to give it a higher score. My scoring is strict, a good summer like 2003 or 2006 would score an 8, maybe 8.5.

Not memorable but not dreadful either. 6/10 seems fair.

It's been rather a 'nothing summer' in this region. A very brief hottish spell early July faded into 'around average' temps, a trend which has largely continued. We've had no shortage of days where the temp's topped 20c, and we've had decentish levels of sunshine and the number of days we've had rain is much less than the summers of 2007-2012.

But it's just been unremarkable. No 'beach weather' (mid-20's temps, sunshine) after that early July spell. No prolonged settled, sunny & dry spell so you can plan parties/BBQ's/days out/weekend breaks in advance with any confidence.

We're at Caernarfon this weekend and, whilst it's not looking a washout, it's going to be coolish with sunny spells & some showers. Again, not at all weather for spending the day on the beach, having to frequently plunge into the sea to cool down.

My overall rating will be either a 5.5/10 or perhaps a 6/10 if this weekend is better than expected.

Here locally, my nearest official station will record its lowest summer maxima since 1998. I can count on one foot the amount of days that briefly glanced 20c. Even most of the 16c + daily max temps were the result of very brief afternoon spikes rather than anything sustained, with afternoon hourly temps typically averaging between 14-16c.

Of more concern to me was the unbelievable lack of thunder. 2 days observed with a couple of distant rumbles Which in my lifetime at least is unprecedented. Had enough of this summer now. Roll on the ferocious skies of autumn.

As others have said, it's been a north-south divide summer. June and July were good down in Surrey, both empirically and in the memory. Only one heatwave of any note, but consistently usable weather - quite a few 26C and 27C days - but only a couple of days above 30C. One of those of course was a 36.5C (in London at least - 'only' 34C in Reigate) which is quite an isolated spike. Considering that was with a cloudy afternoon for 3 hours or so, I swear a 40C might have been on the cards if the breaks had been better.

But... August has not been good, which unfortunately has aligned with the school holidays, but at least I escaped south for two weeks of that. It has occasionally has been nothing short of atrocious with some of the heaviest rain I've seen. One day over 30C, but most days down in the 21C range... disappointing. I get the impression that the north would say the exact opposite.

So overall - if September is ok, my perception would shift to a good summer overall, but not great. A 6 or 7/10 perhaps.

Well after a poor June and July (Duller, wetter cooler) here in Edinburgh, August has been a much better month. It's probably been around average (maybe drier) but it feels good compared to earlier.

The festival has been a huge success this year with few wet days and only one wet evening at the tattoo.

Most sunrises and sunsets have been stunning and the evening moonrise over the last few days awesome. I could cope much better if summers were as good as this August! Weatherwise, May to July this year actually depressed me slightly!

Anyway off to Portugal for 3 weeks on Friday for more summer!

Some excellent posts here. So its not my imagination at all - but August has been pretty bad in my part of the country and the last week of August including today has been downright dire.

I'd love to know what the sunshine figures are for this August because this one must be one of the worst. August 2008 was the dullest since the record bad August of 1912. This one sunshine wise must be close to August 2008.

Just been working out on those who took a week off would had been their worse summer holiday time off with 8 days out of 10 being wash out.

Last Saturday and last Friday was the only true dry days but rest was washout and not usable to do things or do events.  Must be a record for 8 washout days out of 10 days off.

I am surprised the public doesn't do anything to ask the Government to scrap the BH weekend in August to September and bring one more in June or early July.  Leave August, October and November out from BH as there no need due to poor weather.

Really sorry for many of those that took time off to stay at home.  I never took one in August to stay here all my life only Cyprus when I used to live there during school term and after school up to 1998 so I miss all the bad Augusts.  One of my friend on FB her kids cannot wait go to back to school because they are so bored of being stuck inside all the time.

This past week will be remembered as the week that `summer` was well and truly washed away, 5.5 ins of rain in a week

Not since 1986 has autumn arrived in late august.

This years summer I will give 3 out of 10, utterly pathetic!!! Only 2 days of 25c+ even in 2012 we had two decent hot spells that lasted over a week each time. The only time it felt like summer was mid june to mid july.Yet again another piss poor august,we must get a decent august one year soon! The last decent august was 2004.

Very very disappointing summer

Meanwhile 'we' here in S E Kent appear to be in the midst of a run of good summers (better than LTA temps and sunshine)  with 2013 (late starter) 2014  (excellent July) and 2015 (all 3 months warmer than the LTA).

Large regional variations are evident, even variations of note at county level. My mean for August is at 17.5 putting it around 0.7 above the LTA.

Looking back, the Summer was broken up into three distinct sections here.  The first half of June was mixed, with a very wet spell from 12th-13th with 46mm of rain.  The period from mid June to mid July was the best part of the Summer, many pleasant Summer days with the only thundery spell of the Summer here from July 3rd-5th.  The rest of the Summer just seemed to deteriorate gradually, albeit with a warm dry spell in the first week of August.

Overall then, I would describe it as a slightly sub-par Summer (really only due to August), although nowhere near as bad as the Summers of 2007, 2008 and 2012.

Looking at this, it's no wonder I found myself looking at summer in a poorer light than many; August was the dullest and wettest relative to average for the southernmost counties of CS England.

Locally, rainfall was over 200% of the LTA and sunshine less than 70%. That's truly dire.

Never mind, at least September's starting off well here, with plenty of dry weather and a decent feel to things in the sunshine
