Not September convection technically, but yesterday there were reports of a 'tornado' around Southport. Looks like a funnel cloud to me, but either way, yesterday and late last night especially ended up being pretty lively around here, which was unexpected:

I was in Coventry this afternoon about half past 2 and heard a couple of rumbles of thunder. Heavy rain for about half hour.

local coastal convergence must have given rise to those showers here today from around eastbourne to hastings as a few miles inland there appeared to be virtually nothing

10.6mm between 17:30 and about 17:50 this evening here at Kew was quite unexpected and gave a bit of local flooding

Dodged the slow moving showers today, whilst I kept dry there were two heavy bursts seen nearby.

Whereas at this end, scattered showers merely gave me 4.2 mm today. Along with the occasional bouts of sunshine, my lawn is now looking lush once again.

Saw some great cell development last evening coming in from the Southport area which produced a lightning flash.

Did a time-lapse of it

Well, that was an unexpected proper power shower with torrential rain, gusty winds and even hail. 5.1 mm fell in that 10 minutes here at Folkestone.

A very dark, wet scene in the last hour here, with several bouts of very heavy rain coming through. Some enormous raindrop sizes at first.   Rumble of thunder heard too, the first thunder I've heard since July 5th!

Looks like being a convective afternoon and evening for many places.

Thunder possible in some of the heavier downpours.
