Not had one of these for a while! If I were to script the weather for 2016, it'd be exactly like this:

January

The cold & snowy spell that had descended on the UK in the middle of the preceding December begins to relax its grip as we move into the second week of January and the deep snow blanketing the country begins to slowly thaw. A mild spell develops in the third week as the Azores High builds eastwards over mainland Europe. Many inaccurate calls of “Bartlett High! Winter is over!” on TWO. The high quickly recedes as a deep Atlantic low digs SE’wards into Europe. The combination of strengthening Scandinavian high with this low over central Europe advects a new blast of cold air westwards as we near the end the month.

February

The Scandinavian high ridges westwards to link with an Arctic High that has ridged strongly southwards into Greenland. The Jetstream is displaced over southern England and a succession of vigorous lows passing directly over the country brings frequent falls of snow to most of the UK, with lowland depths in many western areas reaching 50cm+, and isolated/elevated communities cut off totally. The set-up lasts for the first half of Feb before relenting and, by the end of the month, temps are back to average. It’s been a very good winter

March

A quiet & dry start, but another cold blast mid-month gives a wintry sting in the tail before temperatures surge for an early taste of spring.

April

A mixed month with spells of gales & rain followed by a couple days of pleasant sunshine; rinse & repeat for much of the month, although settling down as we approach May.

May

Good sunny & dry weather early in the month, briefly unsettled mid-month, before the first heatwave of the year kicks in for the final week & a half, with temps topping out in the mid-20’s.

June

The very nice weather continues through much of the month, with high pressure located to our north east. Only a few incursions of showery rain, until a more organised low moves across the country later in the month to bring welcome rain, before the high rebuilds.

July

The high retrogresses westwards to sit over the UK, extending the really nice start to summer. Apart from the odd shower, mostly dry. Concern over reservoir levels, talk of hosepipe bans. Temps easily reaching mid-20’s for days on end

August

For once, talk of hosepipe bans doesn’t herald a total breakdown of good weather into wet & windy drudgery. There is more rain during this month – but from occasional thundery downpours, as the high that had taken residence over the UK slips a little SSE’wards, pulling up some really warm air. The set up proves remarkably stubborn through the entire month. Temps fluctuate between mid-20’s and low-30’s. The best August in years.

September

The excellent summer breaks in the second week, with a return to Atlantic-dominated weather for a week or so, before becoming more settled as a high once again takes residence over the UK. Chilly nights with beautiful misty mornings and pleasant early autumn days are on the menu as the leaves begin to change colour.

October

A continuation of the late-September theme before the inevitable breakdown to wet & windy toward the middle of the month. Conditions then settle down again, but with a chilly set-up. Halloween is dry, a bit cold & foggy.

November

The first week continues chilly with foggy nights, a bit smoggy on/after Bonfire Night. Thereafter, a spell of quite wild weather – gales & heavy rain, but quite cold as blocking to our north displaces the Jet quite far south. Snow on Scottish mountains, even on Lakeland/Snowdonian peaks.

December

Blocking to our north feeds in ever colder air and, by the middle of the month, much of the UK has had its first snowfall of the winter. Speculation increases that this will be another severe winter. As it gets colder & snowier in the run-up to Xmas, it seems this speculation is correct as widespread snow settles everywhere. Xmas Day itself is dry, clear & very cold. With snow already blanketing pretty much all of the UK, it’s perfect. However, Boxing Day brings an ‘Arctic’ storm, with blizzards widespread. Chaotic snow-laden scenes herald in the New Year.

I reckon there’s something for everyone in there! Well, apart from those weirdos who like wind winters and/or cool summers

January - Dark and stormy. Howling gales everyday.
February - Same as above, but with easterly blizzards.
March - Along with April, my least favorite month of the year. Ideal set up would be stormy and mild
April - Sultry and thundery.
May - High pressure to the E or SE bring hazy blue skies with thundery breakdowns.
June - Sultry and thundery
July - as above
August - as above with nice pink sunsets.
September - Cool and stormy
October - Dark and very stormy. Perfect Hallowe'en weather.
November: Bleak and stormy.
December - Vigorous with gales and storms with the odd crispy frosty foggy day/night.

Average, nothing weather drives me nuts

The Scottish historian Thomas Carlyle suggested English names to match the French Revolutionary ones in his 1837 work on the French Revolution,  namely Vintagearious, Fogarious, Frostarious, Snowous, Rainous, Windous, Buddal, Floweral, Meadowal, Reapidor, Heatidor, and Fruitidor.

Like the Carlsberg 2016 forecast from Martin.
A little more emphasis needed on Christmas Day however as a Russian LP moves in from the NE bringing copious amounts of snow.

The older I get the less fussed I am with regard to cold and wintry weather. However, I would not be too disappointed if we received a two week decent easterly snow event in the darkest period of winter between Mid December and early January.

Winters overall though would have to be predominantly dry and mild.

Spring would be cool with sunshine and showers.

Summer would be warm 24-26c (not hot) and dry with occasional night time thunderstorms

Autumn would be dry and warm until Mid October followed by a traditional stormy period until the end of November. Early December would be calm, anticyclonic and foggy before the onset of the Mid December freeze up.

Infact..today is one of those near perfect days. Hazy warm sunshine with temps in the low 20's. A dry and non humid SE'ly breeze. The sun is warm but there is no sweatiness and you can sit outside for much longer now without fear of burning.

January: Mild but cold nights away from the coast.

February: Same but gets a little colder, but towards the end even though its colder we are seeing the first sighns of Spring.

March: A mixed month. But with increasing solar radiation we see plenty of warm days but fog creates dissapointment on some of those days.

April: The sun is getting strong now. Showers and occasional hail but with some very calm days aswell.

May: Like April but it begins to calm down around mid month. Some rainy days keep everything growing but there's a two week calm and warm spell.

June: the Jet moves north later in the month. A few hot days occur but the generality of the weather is moving towards summer.

July: A high begins to establish itself over the UK. Its not drawing in hot southerlies its just sitting there making a beautiful month even if its not hot.

August: The Azores high links with the UK high and moves north. Atlantic depressions which having been absent before begin to track south. These draw up hot air from France. Its a month of warm and hot wheather mixed with some big thundery dowpours and tropical type rainfall.

September: The best month of the year occurs. Its warm days with some cold nights. There's very mild nights too. As the leaves change colour everything remains calm. There's worry by the end that there's too many leaves on the trees as the Atlantic fires up.

October: The Atlantic continues to ramp up but then fizzles out towards the end. There's some very warm days. No plumes though. Whenever high pressure is around its a UK high and there's some cold mornings to wake up to for some parts of the UK. On some days by the afternoon its like summer, but temps are pegged back and the shadows are growing longer as the sun is becoming lower in the sky. The Occasional mega-storm makes its appearance on GFS but it tracks north of us and is also downgraded.

November: As the Atlantic is still quiet theres a lot of slack pressure around and only occasional cloud. So Its starting to get cold. This means the weather outlook servers become overloaded because weido's think it might get to -6c somewhere. But they are dissapointed and it only gets to -3c in Barnsley.

Decemebr: The slack pressure in Novemebr has allowed temps to cool significantly. A polar high ridges into Scandanavia and pushes an Atlantic low pressure system into the North Sea. It is pushed a little further west and on the 16th delivers widespread snowfall away from the coasts although eastern coats north of the Wash have snow. The rest of the month is cold frosty sunny days. Atlantic lows keep being pushed north and then into the North Sea by the persistent scandia high. But there's no continental easterly. People see cold nights and days with snow but they still complain.

Much like Steve's, though I'm getting on but would still like to see a memorable winter as sure we are overdue one. 87 was good down here but 47 looks interesting on the newsreels from that time.

Like good summers, but nothing over 30c and don't like nights you can't sleep it's too warm.

In November, would prefer a quiet spell around bonfire night with HP over the country resulting in foggy nights. Thereafter, agree with turbulent weather which breaks the rut and leads to cold blasts for the Winter.
