Yes the warm front has passed and it feels rather humid despite the wind and rain, very odd feel for November. 13c here.

Yesterday's minimum of 13.7 and maximum of 14.7 produced the biggest 24-hour temperature anomaly of the month so far, at +7.1*C. This is due to the data LTA being nearly a degree lower than the values for the 6th and 7th of the month, which were warmer in absolute terms but 'only' 6.5 and 6.8*C above their date LTAs.

With the CET running so high it's a bit unfortunate to see a cold snap looming for next weekend and into the following week as we were on course to smash the record set in 1994. A return to mild conditions by the middle of next week could save it, perhaps?

Doing a stats update, the most uninteresting is the rainfall here:

Rainfall: 40.6 mm, 97.9% of the LTA for 17 days of Nov. Wettest day 9.8 mm on 5th.

BORING.

But then...

Following another huge positive anomaly yesterday at +6.5*C, the local mean stands at 12.36*C for 1st-16th, which is 4.6*C above the long term average for the period!

In some ways I'm gutted that it's going to be tumbling away during this weekend into next week.

Shame about the sunshine totals though - just 12.7 hours so far this month compared to the usual of around 60 hours so we're talking about 21% of what's expected.

As extraordinary as November seemed, December's been even more anomalous so far down here, and looks to continue that way for a little longer still;

The 24h mean anomalies for each day so far, relative to the LTA for that particular date, are as follows:

+7.33
+6.59
+7.03
+2.91
+6.40
+7.51

That last one, for today, is the second highest of the year, with only that roasting first day of July being further above the LTA.

Based on the raw numbers from the GFS 12z op run the outlook for the next few days (in terms of anomalies) is as follows:

+7.13 (possibly even +7.63 based on some of yesterday's output)
+6.85
+3.36
+5.37

After which it finally cools off.

The mean for 1st-6th Dec is 11.65*C which is an anomaly of +6.3*C.

To the 10th it would be +6.10*C if the GFS 12z verified perfectly. But believe it or not, the model's been undercooking the temps by around a degree Celsius on almost every date for the past fortnight so the mean could come in even higher!

November never got more than 4.66*c above the LTA in terms of the 'mean-to-date' values.

Today's exceeding what were already incredible expectations;

The overnight low was 12.25*C as opposed to the 11*C suggested by GFS for example, and today it's already past 14*C when GFS was going for 13*C tops in yesterday's runs.

It feels like spring out there which is nuts for a week into December.

The anomaly for the date is going to be huge - at least +8*C  which is within 1*C of the anomaly record (of 2015 so far) set on 1st July, which was +8.92*C. Of course, summer heat always has the greatest potential to set anomalies due to the potential for heat to build a long way south and be brought north, which is absent (actually, reversed) in the winter months. The hottest days I have known correspond to date anomalies of around +12*C.

Despite that, I reckon having anomalies of more than +6*C in the winter months for so many days with hardly a break is in many ways even more exceptional - and on a par with the greatest of the summer heatwaves such as that long run of 30*C+ days in 2006 - or the record breaking one in 1976!

The fact that I now have clear blue skies outside just adds to the madness. Sunny and in the mid-teens, a week into December!

Was properly spring like when the sun came out today. Have had a day off and spent most of the afternoon in the garden and windows and door open in house to let the heat out. It was properly muggy inside until I let some fresh air in.
Temps in the sun (I know you're supposed to measure in the shade) but temp in the sun reached a maximum of 22.9c this afternoon around 1.30pm. December 7th!!! That is ridiculous.
