Snow after 3 lam left a covering. Has retreated to the hills now. I'm up on the tops at 1680ft atm and the car temp is a bitter -1c with a strong breeze and around 1cm of snow.

In Glossop the temp was 3c

Had a small blink and you miss it shower of sleet and wet snow around midnight, followed by an enormous hail shower that left a covering for a while. Standard fair for a northerly in these parts

There must have been some terrific wind gusts in the early hours as lots of things were strewn across the garden this morning. None of my local stations come up near the top of Weatheronline's list but there are some impressive gusts all the same.

Currently altitude is approx 110 meters, snow that wasn't washed away by the following rain still remains - even in the sun.

Interesting battle locally between rain and snow earlier today. It did very briefly turn to all snow for a few seconds a couple of times but was mostly sleet before turning to rain.

Currently 4C with a strong northerly wind. Overnight low 0.2C during the evening.

From my hotel room at Gatwick just after 8am it was nice to see the sudden transition from light rain to moderate snow. It left a slushy light covering in the some car windscreens and the odd bit of grass verge.

Back home here in Folkestone it would appear that there was a snow shower around 1am..resulting in a fairly sudden fall in dewpoint from 2.0c at 1am to -1.6c at 01.30hrs.

Ben, Hole of Horcum was closed this pm, now open 'with care'. Wolds were white too earlier, but nothing settled here in the Howardian area, despite heavy showers at times. Most of the showers remained to our East, I could see the black clouds but they were not quite close enough!

As luck would have it, I set off for the wolf centre at 8:20 AM just as a large blob arrived from the north (on the radar). It was 3.5C, dew 2.6C. That would ordinarily spell rain, but there were some snowflakes mixed in. As I went up the hills that run along the Isle of Sheppey (150-200ft asl) the snowflakes increased to circa 20% of the sleet, rather than 5% as at home (30 feet asl).

The temperature fell to 2.5C and stayed there as I headed inland, towards Maidstone. The A249 winds its way up the Downs and the temperature steadily fell, reaching zero at the very top near Detling (600ft asl). By then it was proper snow, big splodgy flakes which were trying to settle in the central reservation.

Going downhill past Maidstone on the M20 the temperature rose to all of 1.5C and the sleet returned. However, heading along the M26 towards the M25 saw the temperature fall back to zero and the snow was again coming down fast; the roads hadn't been gritted but it was so wet there was no problem with driving. Again, the central reservation had a dusting and the fields off to the sides had that "salt and pepper" look to them when snow's starting to settle.

At the M25 and heading into Surrey the temperature rose steadily and even between J7 and J8, normally a snowtrap, it was just sleety rain.

The temperature steadily rose and by the time I arrived at the wolf centre, SW of Reading, it was 5C. Balmy by comparison, but out and about with the wolves it certainly felt chilly!

Still, I was lucky enough to see settling snow in Kent today. For once the timings worked out perfectly!

Snow falling on dartmoor today down to about 300 metres. Heavy, wet and blowing around in the wind. No real accumulations just like a heavy frost. Once the main band came through today the winds dropped and now its clear.

Hoping we can get a covering from those showers coming into Cumbria. Met office computer forecasts seems to think some showers are possible . It was spot on last night with regards to temperatures and precipitation type. -2c here .

Heavy wet snow for a couple of hours around midnight, temp fell to 0.9, about 1cm settled even on road, but then came a warm sector with heavy rain and gale, temp popped up to 4 c at 3am and whole lot gone by morning except on the higher Cheviots. Day temp around 3 c though fell in evening under clear skies to 0.9 again. Now its rising again, more cloud more wind I guess. We only get really low temps when the wind drops and thats hardly ever, though the wind certainly makes it feel cold enough....

Temp 4C DP 3C, and light rain...   Although the winds are light, so is the PPN, and aside from that the uppers certainly rule anything of interest out for here on the coast. Hopefully if it clears off quickly enough we might get a decent frost before sunrise

We had a covering of snow around 3am this morning but it was followed by sleet, then rain and had gone by the time I got up at 6am, although the temp was 2c.  As I drove to work at 7am, cars coming in the opposite direction were covered in snow and cars parked in the shade at work were still covered in snow at midday.

The temp is now down to -2.2c.  The fist sub zero night we've had.
