The temperature here has taken a rather dramatic downwards turn.. currently 1.7C. The fact that it's double figures in places like Glossop and Oldham is kind of incredible.

Still just rain though. This is the worst kind of weather.

It's only 0.6c here yet not even a hint of sleet. This morning it was snowing at 1.6c. Must be warmer air aloft still.

It's actually been a rather significant rain event with 19mm since early this morning. River Aire in Leeds is in flood range.

4cms of snow lying on the outskirts of Penrith above 700 feet, the snow line is very sharp at around 450 feet.

Didn't expect anything so 4 hours of moderate snow and 1cms lying was a bonus, how long till I see snow falling again?

Cheers, guys. It's been a weird season so far. It's the second proper snowfall we've had (the first was a couple of weeks ago, although you'd only have seen it and the lying snow if you were up between 2 and 6am that day!)... yet it's been remarkably mild almost relentlessly.

It looks like inland areas of Scotland, north of the Central Belt, could get quite a decent spell of snow tomorrow night.

It really is nice to see those of you in the North getting some snow as you often miss out when other parts of the country get it.  We've had a day of heavy rain here.

Great photos there Nick. Amazing really- it felt mild in the wind here this afternoon yet barely a couple of hundred miles north and you get snow.

Good to see those snowy photos as a welcome counterpoint to all the talk of a record mild December.

A reminder that the weather can always deliver surprises.

Thanks for posting.

It is all a bit marginal away from high ground and although it is pretty cold here it is not quite "cold enough" for anything but rain I fear.
