Check 8am this morning in Altnharra. Oddly it was very warm very early in the far north.

Temps often behave somewhat counter-intuitively at this time of year. For example, the peak pf 14.5*C here today occurred about 10 minutes after it started raining heavily.

Can someone please confirm the date high max UK record for 19th December? (with reference)

I posted some time ago a TORRO data set that cited 15.5C at Hemsby (Norfolk) in 1993 as a date record. I explained how this was the most likely date record to fall.

http://www.torro.org.uk/hightempsyear.php

I have since read various max figures for the date including 15.6C; in fact if the TORRO base is to be believed, 15.6 is the target for a record, not the existing record.

PS sorry to talk about your records in 3rd person Kevin if you're reading this- it seemed appropriate to reply to Essan's post that way!

Maybe its time to coin this kind of warm winter winter weather a name...

I'm thinking 'Spanish Winter'

The weather news this morning mentioned that Ardnagrask in Sutherland recorded 17.5C at 5AM yesterday morning.

The record December high was recorded somewhere near there too I believe but not I suspect at 5AM.

XCweather showing Pershore at 16'c. Presumably the date record has already been broken

19 December 2015 07:13:51

Not quite Dave.

Data is recorded from 09z to 09z each day. Any temperature recorded prior to 0900 this morning will be treated as relating to the 18th as far as the maximum is concerned. The record for the 18th is 18.0C so no date record there.

For the 19th the minimum CET will be calculated from 09z on the 18th to 09z on the 19th. The maximum CET for the 19th is calculated from 09z on the 19th to 09z on the 20th.

So if Pershore remains above 15.5C at 09z this morning the date record will have gone (currently at 15.7C).

19 December 2015 07:19:05

At 06z this morning temperatures were above 15C in a number of areas right across the UK:

Kinloss 15.4C
Carlisle 15.0C
Rhyl 15.3C
Shawbury 15.2C
Pershore 15.7C
Coleshill 15.2C
St James Park 15.1C
Yeovilton 15.2C
Filton 15.1C
Chivenor 15.4C
Brize Norton 15.2C

13.7C here after an overnight low of 12C. Quite astonishing for December, but it's as nothing compared to the four stations showing as 16C on xcweather!
