Although it's been mild , today is the first day the temperature has been utterly ridiculous.
High of 15.2c here at 190masl. Currently 15.0c. Warmest day since October 31st. Never felt anything like it in December.

In contrast to the sleet and snow last Saturday.

Yes, hairdryer wind less than a week before Xmas and it's 16c with a 15c dew point at 9am. Ridiculous.

Apparently Chivenor in Devon didn't get below 14.2c a December min record if confirmed. Crazy times

The 24 hour minimum at Chivenor was 12.7C at 09z yesterday.

So the current record (for England) of 13.7C on 12 December 1994 at Whitby stands. The highest UK December minimum is 15.0C which was recorded in Wales at Hawarden on the same day in 1994.

I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread today - hope we can get a high maximum in somewhere. Amazing weather

Several PWS reporting 16-17C in the NE as well. Dave W on UKWW suggesting Foehn effect causing slightly higher temperatures for those N/NE of the NY Moors.

England record of 17.7C could well be broken today, but hopefully an 'official' weather station can report a record

Doncaster and London City both showing as 17C on XCWeather right now.

It's 16.1C here and the sun's come out - not on the screen, though, as that's in the shade of some conifers.

16.1C less than a week away from Christmas... utterly bonkers!

(Edit: looks like a Foehn effect as the dewpoint's dropped markedly. There are several PWS 17s in the area too, mainly in the lee of the Downs!)

Doncaster reported 17*C at 12:20, as did London City Airport. Gravesend also reported 17*C but 20 minutes earlier in time.

This makes me wonder what the record December max is for the SE region for example.

Incredible day with bees buzzing around the garden, our spring flowering cherry tree starting to bud and show signs of blossoming and daffs poking through.

Also saw a couple of very frisky looking pigeons on the lawn. Warmth is the food of love for all animals and these pigeons were definitely having a good time in the spring like sunshine.

The temp seemed to peak at 7am this morning at 14.5*C but has managed to venture back up to that level again at times this afternoon. Having had a minimum of 12.3*C the diurnal date anomaly may reach +9*C for the first time this year.

Central London has now had double digit maxes every day since 23rd November (though it got close on the 13th) and has had a total of only 4 single digit days since last spring, all together between the 20th and 23rd November.

In some ways the Tmin record is even more remarkable: 4C or below only 4 times since spring, not once at or below zero, and in double figures 11 times so far this month. The Tmin graph shows little or no visible trend since late September.

I thought about mowing the lawn today too. It points to one odd feature of this crazy spell, which is that it has been remarkably dry in the South East despite the flooding in the West. Damp enough to keep the leaf litter gunky rather than crisp, but no really heavy rain for a long time. That's what makes mowing the lawn a real prospect.
