13.9*C here today after a 10.0*C minimum last night.
I've just done a projection for my local mean using the 12z GFS op run and arrived at a value of 11.04*C for the month, which is 6.34*C above the LTA.
+6.34*C!
I mean that's just... there are no words!
It would also mean that the first Double Digit December that I know of for this location would also hit the 11*C benchmark.
Since I started recording the temps in detail, the mildest December has managed to come in at 6.50*C which was 'only' 1.8*C above the LTA. That was 2006 and I thought that was a balmy winter!
Breaking things down into the max and min values, the projected mean max (and anomaly) is impressive enough at +12.56*C (+5.06*C), but the projected mean min steals the show with a value of 9.38*C (+7.58*C).
Now for the most astounding comparative stat of all... the highest mean max in my records going back to 2000 is 9.1*C in 2006, so the mean min this month would beat the previous highest mean max! The next highest mean min is all the way down at +4.17*C, set in 2011.
Given the general pattern in place, I'd be surprised if the actual outcome was much lower than these projections. If anything they could be higher based on recent trends with respect to the final couple of days of the month.
Now please excuse me while I have some kind of meltdown
