The last week of December 2005 brought a short weak easterly flow that did bring some snowfalls especially for the east. It didn't last long before the Atlantic moved in from the west.

It wasn't weak where I was, the first severe snow I remember in my lifetime. Snow was more than a foot deep, the cold spell lasted a week (might not sound much, but again its the most I can remember). I would have to wait to the back end of 2009, perhaps even January 2010 to see another snow event comparable (or more extreme).
EDIT: Sorry, messed up I was thinking of February 2005.
Don't even remember this one, lol.
Cheers Kev
We didnt do that well out of that ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,sadly
We did OK out of it here. 13cm was recorded at sea level near Hythe. Locally as high as 22cm on the high ground near Lympne. This was the scene that greeted me this very morning 10 years ago.
The breakdown on the 30th was impressive with a near SE gale and driving fine snow for a couple of hours. Eventually it turned to rain but not until we had reached 540 dam and the 850Hpa's exceeded 0c.
I remember it well. One of those "where did that come from easterlies". Will we ever get another one!
Remeber it well as it was the last time an easterly brought anything other than putrid filth. We had around 5 or 6cm here.
Some pictures from 29th December 2005:
Winter at it's best and couldn't be further from the woeful conditions being endured 10 years on
There wasn't much snow here until a big storm with much drifting, as it turned milder at New Year
