January 1916 was the mildest January on record with a CET of 7.5. There was little frost and snow during the month with maxima often in double figures, 17.2C was recorded at Rhyl on the 6th. The weather was unsettled especially in the north as Atlantic lows regularly pushed through maintaining the mild martime airflow across the UK throughout the month.

Thanks Kev, an incredible 5 Januarys since 1989 have been over 6C, with a couple more coming close to that figure.


 


 


 


 


From December 27th 2020, zonality will be banned from mixing with the UK. We appreciate that this may come as a shock to younger people and old Uncle Barty. This ban will last for a minimum of ten days.

 Cannot see us breaking the CET record for Jan because it is expected to be cooler than Dec but not cold


Average temps, rain and cool zonality rule the roost this month


I think we will not see dominant Azores High this month wafting tropical air over us - more likely average to fairly cool westerlies or North westerlies likely - hence an average month expected

Given that ease by which we beat December..it won't be long before the January record gets breached. Maybe not this year but within the decade I would have thought.
