Ghastly grey, wet, cold and windy for the second day running.  And another day of it to come... 

Blowing a full on southerly gale here now, with the rain becoming quite heavy - but it shouldn't be for much longer with the back edge inching close to this location (might even get a last minute pink hue in the sky as the sun sets in 45 minutes time).

A vile day.

Heavy rain here atm but the back edge of the front is in sight on the southern horizon  Winds are light and the pressure is down to 978mb and falling. Happy New Year btw 

Edit: 15.42 = Hazy golden sunset - still moderate to heavy rain and the frontal edge is only advancing slowly - so grey overhead! 

One day? A touch optimistic I'm afraid - variations of the current theme look likely for several days yet

Currently rather windy here too and, as it has been all day, dark. It is less wet than it is inland but the very strong SEly wind  wind makes things very unpleasant.

Finally over the man flu and not had a bad festive season - quiet - just how I like it  Hope yours went well. What wind there is here has now veered into the SW from the SE but it's almost calm atm. I reckon if the frontal edge moves any slower it'll grind to a halt here! 

Rain on and off since about 1pm, nothing too heavy so far but passed 6mm as we had 3mm in the night.  6.3C

Continuous rain continues here over inland Aberdeenshire - never torrential but often moderate with occasional lighter interludes. The rain started around 2200 on New Year's Day and it has rained almost continuously for 42 hours now. My total for the period is presently 55m which compares well with Aboyne (57mm) and well above both Aberdeen (33mm) near the coast and Braemar (36mm) well inland.

Just for interest I've extracted the hourly rain for the synoptic stations at Braemar, Aboyne and Aberdeen Dyce, and added the hourly figures from my own station for comparison. As can be seen there are few hours with more than 3mm - it's just the sheer persistence that is making the totals add up.

As most of the rain is falling over the eastern high ground, settlements in mid and upper Deeside worst affected last week are faring much better well this time round, and levels on that river are well down in almost normal range. Worst affected is the River Feugh which enters the Dee at Banchory and that is presently at 3.7m, compared to 4.5m at the height of last week's flood. It will be interesting to see the Feugh tomorrow once tonight's pepped up frontal rain has fallen on the catchment.
